CELINA - City officials are planning a half-million-dollar expansion of the water treatment plant to improve quality and to prepare for any future treatment standards.
City council members at Monday's regular meeting suspended the three-public-readings rule and unanimously passed as an emergency measure legislation authorizing city safety service director Tom Hitchcock to advertise, receive bids and enter into an agreement to install an advanced oxidation process using ultraviolet light. The remains of a New Bremen native have been identified 51 years after he died in the Vietnam War
The remains of U.S. Navy Corpsman Third Class Mark V. Dennis were flown from Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska, to Tampa International Airport in Florida on April 4. Dennis was 19 years old when the CH-46 helicopter carrying him was shot down near Dong Ha, South Vietnam, in 1966. [More]

ST. MARYS - Both St. Henry and St. Marys had chances to win Monday's softball game at K.C. Geiger Park.
However, the Redskins made the most of their chance in money time.
A sacrifice fly by Kendra Rose in the top of the seventh scored Alexis Ontrop to put the Redskins ahead to stay as they defeated St. Marys 7-6. [More]

CELINA - City council members in the coming weeks will consider how to handle requests from people wanting to use city property for for-profit events.
They'll also consider adopting legislation permitting the use of golf carts and other "under-speed" vehicles within the city limits.
ST. MARYS - Council members on Monday extended an offer of water, sanitary sewer and electrical service to the owners of a property of just over 2 acres north of U.S. 33 in preparation for annexing it into the city.
COLDWATER - Council members on Monday accepted RCS Construction's bid to build the pavilion/amphitheater at Memorial Park.  Village administrator/engineer Eric Thomas presented and council members approved a motion to accept RCS' $244,752 bid.

CELINA - With the assistance of $152,680 in capital grant funds, the Mercer County Board of Developmental Disabilities purchased a home at 804 Woodview Drive in Coldwater for just over $200,000 at a weekend auction.

ST. HENRY - Making his first start of the season on the mound and just his second appearance, Jake Smalley gave Celina more than enough to beat St. Henry 5-1 on Monday at the Wally Post Athletic Complex in the second meeting between the teams during the regular season.
