Fort Recovery citizens celebrate the first monument, built in 1886, in the intersection of Wayne and Boundary streets. The monument was fitted with a natural gas burner that provided a nightly flame. The 35-foot-tall structure with flame was moved to a village park for safety and was later destroyed by a windstorm.
