Mercer County Sheriff’s deputies and a local firefighter investigate the scene of a fatal accident in October, which took the life of Daniel Schoenlein of Portland, Ind. The accident occurred at the intersection of Wabash and Philothea roads and was due to failure to yield, one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities in the area last year. Mercer County saw eight traffic fatalities in 2003, while Auglaize County had only three.
