Bulldogs senior completes three-point
play in the clutch
From staff reports
Kelli Williams’ old-school three-point play with less
than five seconds left lifted Celina past Wapakoneta 45-44 in
the season finale for the Bulldogs at Wapakoneta High School.
Trailing 44-42 with time under 30 seconds, Celina (12-8, 4-5
WBL) set up senior Williams for the shot to tie the game. Williams
drove the lane and was fouled as she shot. The bucket was good
with 4.5 seconds left to tie the game and Williams made the
free throw to put Celina up one. Wapak tried to get a shot up
before the horn but was unable to in time.
The final moments of the game were the capper on a back and
forth night between the two teams.
It took Celina over three minutes to get a point but it jumped
out to a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The teams
were tied up at 23-all at the break with Wapak taking a slight
36-34 lead at the end of three quarters.
Celina outscored Wapak 11-8 in the final eight minutes of play
to pick up the victory.
Williams wrapped up her final league game of the season with
a game-high 14 points. Kara Osterfeld added 11, as did Andrea
Bryan.
Krissy Koester paced the Redskins (13-6, 5-4 WBL) with 14 points
while Lindsey West added 10.
Celina’s off until Feb. 24 when the team opens Division
II sectional action back at Wapakoneta. The Bulldogs face Van
Wert. The Cougars lost on Thursday 54-47 to Elida to drop to
