A worker operates a drill that removes soil samples from the landfill near the intersection of U.S. 127 and Depweg Road. The landfill is owned by Allied Waste. In the background, another worker performs tests on the retrieved samples. Adam Burleson, site manager for Allied Waste, said the preliminary hydro-geology testing is required by the Ohio EPA to determine if any portion of the landfill's property would support future expansion. The company told Celina city councilors, in a letter last summer, the landfill would reach its capacity in three years and would be forced to close without expansion. Workers, who have been performing soil samples on the property for about a month, will continue the process for approximately another month, Burleson said Purchase this as a quality photograph |
