Ugly Duck | ||||||||
| ||||||||
An unusual-looking duck takes in some sun early Wednesday morning near the edge of Grand Lake St. Marys in Montezuma. The duck is a domesticated Muscovy, a breed that originated in Brazil and is the only domesticated duck not derived from mallard stock. The Muscovy's feet are equipped with strong, sharp claws for grabbing tree branches and roosting. Unlike other duck breeds, they do not swim much because their oil glands, which produce a waterproof coating for their feathers, are underdeveloped. Purchase this as a quality photograph |
