Lori Smith of St. Marys won the Golden Brush Trophy award during a recent meeting of the West Central Ohio Art League. The league, a group of artists and art lovers from the Grand Lake St. Marys area, sponsored a competition where each member set up a still life and then created a piece of art in the medium of his or her choice using the still life as the basis. Smith's painting is on display in the lobby of the Richardson Bretz Memorial Building on Fulton Street in Celina until the middle of July and is for sale. Other works from the contest on display are by Clara Forsthoefel of Coldwater, Richard Harbord of New Knoxville, Dorothy Clark of Rockford, Jon Maras of Celina, Doug Eblen of Celina and Joan Muhlenkamp of Coldwater. The art league also is sponsoring a two-day workshop featuring watercolorist Homer Hacker of Dayton teaching landscapes and reflections in water. Hacker will work with each participant, from beginners to advanced. The session will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 11 and 12 at the Richardson Bretz.
