By Lance Mihm lmihm@dailystandard.com ST. MARYS -- Wally Wagner, owner of Wagner's IGA stores in Minster and Fort Loramie, has made an offer for the former Big Bear building in St. Marys.
"We looked at it and felt it was a good location," Wagner said this morning. "We've made an offer. It is up to the owner of the building now." Jacque Bradford, one of several landowners who own the former Big Bear buildings in New Bremen, St. Marys, Wapakoneta and Celina, has returned phone calls from the newspaper. Kenneth Arps of Celina, another member of the group that owns the buildings, would not comment on the issue. "I don't want to say anything which says we have committed ourselves.," Wagner said. "But there is a possibility of us putting a store in St. Marys. We are waiting to hear from them. From what we know, there has been no other movement on the building." While owners of the stores have refused comment on selling the facilities, the parking lot in front of the St. Marys location was paved in May. Local Big Bear locations closed down earlier this year after parent company Penn Traffic closed the entire chain and filed for bankruptcy protection. The only grocery currently in St. Marys is Chief Supermarket. |
