By Janie Southard jsouthard@dailystandard.com ST. HENRY -- A new restaurant is coming to town.
At Monday's village council meeting, councilors approved a liquor license for Greg's Bar and Grill to be located at the Gels Market location, at the corner of Ohio 118 and 119. St. Henry native Greg Gels plans to open his new restaurant as soon as the location is cleared by his father, Charlie Gels, who soon will move his grocery to the former Dave's Market on Ohio 118. According to Charlie Gels, his son plans a sit-down restaurant with seating capacity of 80 to 100 people. Greg Gels, who has run the Fieldhouse bar in Dayton for the past 10 years, was not available for comment this morning. The elder Gels, who operates the store his father, Jerry, established in the early 1950s, expects to open his new grocery at the end of July. All going as planned, he will host a grand opening in August. "I don't want both stores open at the same time and there's a lot to do in (the old) store to remove shelving and equipment before Greg could even get started," Charlie Gels said this morning. Earlier this month, Charlie Gels closed on the sale of the former Dave's Market, which was open for only five months. Former owner Dave Evans cited a boycott of his market by the St. Henry community as the reason for his business failure. Opening the 23,000-square-foot-facility later this month will restore the 30 jobs lost when Dave's closed, Charlie Gels has said. The automatic car wash is now open and the gasoline station will open in a couple weeks, he added. |
