By Margie Wuebker mwuebker@dailystandard.com A 32-year-old Celina man remains hospitalized following a stabbing Friday night at Celina Garden Apartments.
William J. Cotrell, 32, 710 Devonshire Drive, Apt. 12, was taken by ambulance to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys following a 10:07 p.m. altercation. After receiving emergency treatment for multiple stab wounds to the front and back torso, he was taken by emergency helicopter to St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. Cotrell's condition was not available at presstime. Celina Police responded to the apartment complex on reports of a fight and related stabbing. Chief David Slusser told The Daily Standard the investigation is continuing to clear up discrepancies. The suspect, described as a 24-year-old Celina man, and some of his friends reportedly got into a verbal altercation with the victim outside the complex. "We do not know at this point whether the stabbing occurred immediately or whether some time elapsed between the argument and the stabbing," Slusser said. The suspect and his friends drove from the scene, according to witnesses, and someone alerted authorities. He was apprehended a short time later at a residence in the 400 block of South Walnut Street. Officers recovered a silver-handled pocketknife at the apartment complex around 1 a.m. Saturday. Charges will be filed against the unidentified man later today and he remains incarcerated at the Mercer County Jail. |
