Colorful buttons, made by Tigereye Design in French Town, will be in evidence Thursday when the 55th presidential inaugural swearing-in ceremony takes place in Washington, D.C. The Darke County business has designed and made more than 50,000 commemorative buttons in 25 varied designs honoring George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. At right, employee Kathy Gelhaus completes another batch of buttons popular with Republicans, collectors and people who will be attending the event. Owner Tony Baltes expects sales totals to be down this year as a result of heightened security. The parade route has been widened with streetside vendors who traditionally sold another 50,000 or so buttons eliminated from the scene. Baltes said many people purchase a commemorative button as an inexpensive souvenir of the historical event, which occurs every four years. The business created more than 3 million political buttons for the 2004 campaign pitting Bush against Sen. John Kerry in a bid for a second term. Purchase this as a quality photograph |
