Great egrets have again been sighted in the Grand Lake area, such as the one pictured above in a channel in Montezuma last week. Last summer, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed the all-white birds discovered along U.S. 127, south of Celina, were indeed great white egrets and unusual to be found in this area. The wading birds, with a wingspan of about 55 inches, are a cousin to the more familiar great blue herons that are established on Grand Lake. The great egrets likely have been migrating to the local area from the Great Lakes region, ODNR officials said. Purchase this as a quality photograph |
