Popping up all over | ||||||||

Mushrooms, toadstools -- whatever you want to call them -- have sprung up everywhere in the Grand Lake area. Those pictured above are in a Coldwater lawn. According to lawn experts, it's common to find the fungi in grass this time of year particularly after rainfall. Most of the fungi are beneficial as they break down organic matter and release nutrients that are necessary for plant growth. Some homeowners don't welcome their odd appearance or are afraid children and pets will bother them. In that case, it's OK to pull them out but don't eat them; some varieties are poisonous.
