  The Cardinals pick up their first win of the season and stand at 1-2 while the Bulldogs lose their third consecutive game to fall to 1-3.

  Liz Schnelle paced three Cardinals in double figures with 20 points. Sarah Schmiesing added 16 with Christine Schwartz tallying 10.

  Betsy Hone had her second straight 20-point effort with a game-high 25 points.

  Celina gets back to WBL action on Thursday as St. Marys comes to the Fieldhouse for the annual matchup.

Flyers fall to 0-2

  Marion Local hosted state and national powerhouse Chaminade-Julienne on Saturday battling the Eagles to the wire.

  In the end, C-J came away from the Hangar with a 45-34 win over the Flyers dropping them to 0-2 on the season.

  Marion trailed by just five at the break at 22-17, but the Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter.

  Kim Droesch and Megan Barhorst each had eight to lead the Flyers. Maria Moeller and Katelyn Mescher each added seven.

  Marion opens the MAC season on Thursday at St. Henry.

Redskins thrash Tigers

  A 28-3 first quarter set the pace as St. Henry improved to 2-0 with an 81-14 pasting of Ansonia on Saturday.

  The Redskins led 47-8 at the half and 62-10 at the end of three quarters, putting the game away with ease.

  St. Henry had a solid shooting game, connecting on 43.2 percent of its attempts while Ansonia was the complete opposite, hitting just 8.6 percent (3-of-35).

  Brenda Hemmelgarn paced four Redskins in double figures with 15 points. Sandy Beyke added 12 with Erica Wilker and Brittany Post adding 12 and 11, respecitvely. Ten of the 13 Redskins dressed for the game scored at least two points.

Indians down Redskins

  Fort Recovery rallied from two points down at the start of the fourth quarter to outscore Fort Loramie 17-14 in the final stanza to beat the Redskins at Fort Loaramie 56-55 to improve to 2-0.

  Holly Stein and Tiff Gaerke each had 14 to pace the Indians. Sam Staugler added 12 points off the bench.

  Courtney Reed led all scorers with 19 points. Erin Schieltz added 12 with Stephanie Drees and Hayley Barhorst each chipping in 10.

  Fort Recovery travels to Versailles on Thursday to start league play.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bulldogs fall to 0-2

  A solid night from several Bulldogs fell short as Celina dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 57-45 loss to Linden McKinley at the Fieldhouse on Saturday night.

  The Bulldogs trailed 39-35 going into the fourth quarter against the Panthers, only to have the Panthers outscore Celina 18-10 in the final quarter to pull away.

  Scott Luthman and Andy Muhlenkamp each had 13 to pace the Bulldogs while Brian Dorsten, who was scoreless on Friday night in the season opener, added 11.

  Robert Wilkes led the Panthers with 17 points and James Davis added 15 points with Robert Graves scoring 12.

  Celina hits the road for the first time on Saturday with a trip to Bellefontaine.

Redskins open with win

  Kurt Huelsman scored 19 and Toby Boeckman added 13 as St. Henry opened the season with a 54-51 win at Crestview. The Knights fall to 1-1.

  The Redskins pulled out early, then had to hold off the Knights in the final three quarters.

  Ben Shindeldecker led the Knights with 21 points.

  St. Henry is at St. Marys on Friday.

Indians hold off Hawks

  Fort Recovery evened its record at 1-1 with a 47-45 win over Mississinawa Valley on Saturday.

  Travis VanSkyock led the Tribe with 20 points. Ryan Staugler added eight with Luke Bihn adding seven.

  The Indians host Crestview on Friday in conference action.

  Parkway opened its season with a tough 61-45 loss to Wayne Trace.
