01-19-06 Pair apprehended despite false names, escape try

Coldwater Police found more than a fight when they went to a local residence Tuesday night on reports of a loud altercation.

The perpetrators, who identified themselves as Greg Marchal and Heather Lyn Marvil, turned out to have other names as well as outstanding felony warrants.

Police responded to an apartment in the 300 block of South Third Street after a caller reported people fighting at that location.

The couple, who have been residing with a relative at Greenland Estates in Coldwater, were visiting at the apartment when they apparently got into a disagreement.

Each allegedly gave officers a fictitious name, according to Coldwater Police Chief Gery Thobe. However, a bystander reportedly told authorities the 34-year-old man was James Marchal.  Marchal, who had been using his brother's name, is wanted by Van Wert County authorities for failure to register as a sex offender. He also claimed to have no address but it was later learned he had been living temporarily at Greenland, 911 N. Seventh St.

The 31-year-old Marvil, who allegedly aided Marchal in providing false identity information, turned out to be Heather Cadwallader, who has outstanding warrants from the State of Georgia for felony probation violation.

Marchal attempted to escape after being placed in the back of a Coldwater cruiser by kicking out the rear window. He was halfway out the window when authorities intervened. Several units from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.

The pair were taken to the Mercer County Jail, where he remains incarcerated. Cadwallader has been transferred to the Van Wert County Jail since the local facility no longer houses women due to space limitations.

Thobe said no local charges have been filed as yet.
