| | Hearts and more hearts fill the hallways at Marion Local Elementary School as part of a fundraising effort spearheaded by Principal Karen Post. Above, first-grader Emily Homan finds one bearing her name. In addition to teaching students concern for others, the project raised $1,088.11. The staff decided this year's proceeds will go to the Cancer Association of Mercer County. Post noted several students recently lost fathers to cancer. Everyone who purchased a heart, ranging from 10 cents to $3, could include a message. Recipients will receive their greeting when the display comes down next week. Post will give prizes to students who guessed closest to the number of hearts on display. She is still counting at last report.
