| | During last week's Conservation Camp sponsored by the Grand Lake/Wabash Watershed Alliance, participants made sediment tubes. Children layered rock, sand, soil and water in the tube to illustrate the earth's makeup. The tube was capped and the children gave it a good shake to mix everything. If the tube was set upright on its cap the layers returned to normal, unlike real life. Nikki Hawk, administrator of Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District said in real life water washes the soil away and eventually the rocks erode. Children went home with a bird feeder, tackle box and other goodies. An Ohio Division of Wildlife Step Outside grant also helped fund the camp.
