Area Agency on Aging 3 intends to award Title III-D Older American Acts funds for calendar year 2019 to providers who furnish Disease Prevention and Health Promotion services to persons 60 and older within Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer, Putnam, and/or Van Wert counties. The Mercer County Council on Aging which is a private nonprofit corporation intends to submit a Proposal for a capital grant under the provision of 49 USC Section 5310 of the Federal Transit Act to provide transportation service for the elderly and disabled within Mercer County, including a 40-mile radius for medical appointments. The grant proposal will request one modified mini-van with a 4/2 configuration; one accessible van with a 7/2 configuration and one light transit vehicle in an 8/2 configuration.
It is projected that approximately 250 clients age 60 and older, as well as those under 60 who are disabled needing medical transport, will use the service five days per week, 52 weeks per year, for various activities, including transportation to medical appointments, shopping for groceries, senior meal site, and other non-medical trips as resources allow.
The Mercer County Council on Aging invites comments and proposals from all interested public, private and paratransit operators including taxi operators, for the provision of transportation service to the elderly and disabled within our service area.
