By Shelley Grieshop sgrieshop@dailystandard.com Two area 17-year-olds are recovering from injuries sustained in recent accidents in Mercer County.
Trisha Strawn, 101 N. Washington St., Mendon, has been released from Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., where she was listed in fair condition earlier this week. Strawn's friend, Brittany Shaffer, 15, was a passenger in the car driven by Strawn and was killed in the Oct. 5 accident in northern Mercer County. The girls, both Parkway High School students and members of the school golf team, were heading home from a golf tournament in Kalida at about 5:30 p.m. when Strawn lost control of the car on Tomlinson Road. The vehicle came to rest partially submerged in Kyle Prairie Creek. Shaffer, who was ejected from the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. ´ Jamie Siefker, 7260 Four Turkey Road, Celina, remains in serious condition at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, following an accident Oct. 4 at the intersection of state Route 29 and Riley Road. Siefker suffered serious injuries when she failed to yield at the stop sign and drove southbound on Riley Road into the path of a semitrailer heading westbound on the four-lane highway. The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Siefker, a Celina High School senior, was ejected from the pickup truck she was driving and landed on the roadway, a report stated. The semitrailer jackknifed after traveling across the median and the driver, a Tipton, Ind., man, was treated then released for minor injuries at a local hospital. |
