Eric Braun pitched 12ò3 innings of relief to pick up the win. Joe Clouse struck out three and walked one in the first 51ò3 innings. Kiel Hawk had two hits, including a double, for Celina in the game. In the second game, Celina scored three runs in the bottom of the first but gave up three runs in the top of the fifth as the Trojans salvaged the twinbill with a 4-3 win. Hawk had another double while Garrett Gray and Scott Luthman each added a two-bagger. Garrett Gray had two hits in the second game. Celina hosts Coldwater tonight in a Mercer County matchup. Cavs downed twice by Aviators Former Coldwater player Trent Dues brought his Vandalia-Butler Aviators to Veterans Field for the annual doubleheader with the Cavaliers. Dues went home with two more wins as Butler won 3-1 and 7-4 to improve to 10-4 on the season. Coldwater drops to 11-3. Brad Heyne had a home run and double in the twinbill. Brady Geier and Ryan Gerlach also added homers. Gerlach had two hits in game one while Heyne and Chad Geier added a pair in the nightcap. Coldwater is at Celina today and hosts Versailles in MAC play on Tuesday.

Redskins win Russia title St. Henry snapped back from Friday's loss in the conference opener to win the Russia Invitational on Saturday. In game one, the Redskinsbeat Newton 12-2. The Redskins scored five times in the top of the seventh to put the game away. Ryan Hartke picked the win. Andy Puthoff helped the cause with a home run. St. Henry took on the host Raiders in the finals, winning 6-3. Michael Hoying went 41ò3 innings to get the win for St. Henry, who have won seven of the last eight. Indians split with TCN Fort Recovery split with Tri-County North on Saturday to run their record to 8-6 on the season. In the first game, TCN won 13-8. Sean Kahlig went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBI in the loss. Clint Tobe took the loss. In the second game, the Indians won 6-5 in eight innings after scoring in the top of the eighth after tying the game with two in the seventh. Matt Hein got the win in relief. Clint Tobe went 3-for-5. Dusty Guggenbiller went 2-for-3 with a double and triple.

SOFTBALL Bulldogs split with Chieftains Celina went to 10-2 after splitting a doubleheader with Bellefontaine on Saturday. In game one, Melanie Heyne struck out nine and allowed just two hits the Bulldogs won 4-2. Kirsten Rose doubled for Celina as Julia Siefring and Heyne each had two hits for Celina. Bellfontaine came back to take game two 6-3. Freshman Laura Homan, who has been dominant on the junior varsity team, suffered her first varsity loss despite allowing juust six hits and striking out five. Jamie Siefker and Shay Adams each had two hits. Celina hosts Kenton in Western Buckeye League action on Tuesday.

Cards, Tigers split at Houston New Bremen and Versailles each went 1-1 at the Houston Invitational on Saturday. The teams played each other in the first game, with New Bremen posting a 4-1 win. Julie Griesdorn scattered five hits in getting her fourth win of the season. Chelsea Mayer took the loss despite striking out six. New Bremen lost its second game 2-1 to the host Wildcats. Maria Staton allowed just three hits and struck out five in taking the hard luck loss. Kelly Steineman singled home the lone Cardinal run. The Tigers rebounded to take its second game 6-1 over Franklin-Monroe. Danielle Stucke struck out seven and scattered two hits as the Tigers improved to 6-5. Mayer, Amber Voisard and Katie Mescher each added two hits. New Bremen is at St. Henry today for MAC play while Versailles plays host to Coldwater.

Flyers drop two to Newton Marion Local suffered a pair of losses to Newton on Saturday, falling 6-2 in the first game and losing 12-2 in five innings in the finale. Melissa Otte took the loss in the first game as Amy Droesch lost game two. Lisa Siegrist and Kelly Rosenbeck each had two hits for the Flyers. On Friday, Marion lost 4-0 to Russia. Marion is at Anna on Tuesday.

Indians, Redskins split at Crestview Fort Recovery and St. Henry took part in the Crestview quad on Saturday with each team playing twice, although not playing each other during the day. The Indians split their games, losing 8-2 to Crestview in the opener. Jamie Perkins scattered three hits and allowed one unearned run for the Knights. Krystal Rammel went 2-for-3 in the game. In the second game, Rammel drove in four runs as the Tribe spotted Lincolnview six runs in the first inning before scoring four in the second and five in the fourth en route to a 16-6 six-inning win. Kristen Schwieterman and Megan Wenning had two hits for the Indians. St. Henry won over Lincolnview 15-11 to earn its win of the day. Brenda Hemmelgarn went 4-for-5 with four RBI and Sarah Osterholt and Rachel Schmackers added three hits each for the Redskins. Karla Buschur got the win as Amy Uhlenhake allowed four hits in the final 22ò3 innings for the save. In the other game, Crestview shut out the Redskins 5-0, holding the Redskins to three hits. Uhlenhake went the distance in suffering the loss. The Redskins did make history by turning the first triple play in the history of the program

TENNIS Locals place at Lima Invitational Celina and St. Marys took part in the Lima City Invitational on Saturday, bring home strong results. St. Marys star Jeremy Dominik took home the A-singles title, beating Corby Schroeder of Ottawa-Glandorf 6-4 and 6-0. Celina's Brad Krick lost his opening round match in the flight to Shawnee's Josh Piron. In B-singles, Jonathan Brenneman lost in the second round to Tyler Schroeder of OG 2-6 and 1-6. C-singles saw Roughrider Jameel Brenneman win the consolation final in a 8-2 pro-set over abth's Steven Gullette. Celina's Brent Householder went 1-1, losing his second round match. In D-singles, Celina's Neil Hoyng was the runner-up, losing to Adam Westgerdes of Van Wert 6-0 and 7-6. In A-doubles, the St. Marys team of Aaron Dietz and Steven Falasco lost the consolation final to the OG team of Brent Salsburey and Chris Walthor 8-7. The Celina pair of Matt Stetler and Kyle Everman lost their second-round match to go 1-1 on the tournament. In C-doubles, the Celina team of Ethan Westgerdes and Alex Ball were runner-ups, losing to Bluffton's A.D. Matthews and Andrew Yokam 1-6 and 2-6 in the final. Celina hosts Bellefontaine today while St. Marys goes back to Lima to play LCC. |
