Wildcats take Cardinal Invite Minster opened the boys golf season in style by winning the Cardinal Invitational on Tuesday. The Wildcats shot a sizzling 293, 19 shots better than runner-up Anna. Minster's Adam Borges tied for the low score of the day with a 72 along with Anna's Justin Watren, but Watren won the playoff to take medalist. Evan Lee added a 73 for the Wildcats with Jimmy Stechschulte and Matt Purpus adding 74s. St. Marys was fifth with a 319. Michael Schmitmeyer and Trent Paulus led the Roughriders with 78s. New Bremen was sixth with a 334 thanks to an 80 from Zac Hemmelgarn and 81 from Brian Schwartz. Versailles was seventh and Jordan Schlater led the Tigers with an 84. New Knoxville rounded out the local teams participating with a 13th-place showing (396) as Dustan Kruse led the Rangers with 92. Parkway boys victorious The Parkway boys finished fifth in the 10-team Ben Logan Invitational on Wednesday at Tree Links golf course in Bellefontaine. Trevor Krogman was the medalist on the day firing a round of 77. Ross Black was next in line for Parkway with a score of 81 while Tyler Oliver and Colby Heiser added scores of 100 and 102. GIRLS GOLF Minster girls open with win Minster opened dual match play on Tuesday by beating New Bremen, 208-235. Lindsey Piening led the Wildcats and all golfers on the day with a 49 for medalist honors while Kate Trushaw carded a 52 with Gina Slonkosky adding a 53. Flyers get first win of year Marion Local opened the girls golf season with a 249-262 win over Russia on Wednesday. Jill Beyke paced the Flyers with a 59. Abbie Hartings carded a 60 with Courtney Schimmel and Stephanie Schmackers each finishing at 65. Stephanie Heitkamp added a 68. Sue Cordonnier of Russia was medalist of the match with a 56. Marion faces Coldwater in a MAC match on Monday. |
