By Margie Wuebker mwuebker@dailystandard.com A 2-year-old Celina girl received second-degree burns to both legs when fire broke out at her home Friday afternoon.
Elayna Arnold, the daughter of Aaron and Kristin Arnold, 424 E. Anthony St., was taken by ambulance to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater and later transferred by CareFlight helicopter to Children's Medical Center in Dayton. Her condition was not available at press time Friday. Celina Fire Chief Doug Kuhn said the fire apparently started in a utility room at the rear of the house, where the little girl had been playing. Kristin Arnold reportedly pulled her daughter from the room. They were the only ones home at the time. Firefighters responded at 3:07 p.m. and remained on the scene until 4:53 p.m. The home sustained moderate heat and smoke damage, according to Kuhn. It is owned by Paul Arnold of Celina, the little girl's grandfather. The cause remains under investigation. Celina firefighters also responded to a combine fire at 5:25 p.m. Friday at 8169 Auglaize-Mercer County Line Road. Area resident Jeff Rasawehr was harvesting soybeans when he noticed a fire in the engine compartment. He parked the vehicle in a previously harvested section of the field. None of the remaining soybean crop was damaged. The fire was contained to the engine compartment and no damage estimate was available. Four firefighters, one fire engine and a brush truck remained on the scene approximately one hour. |
