newsroom@dailystandard.com Cavalier linebacker Ross Homan earned his third consecutive Division IV Defensive Player of the Year honor by unanimous choice by the board of sports writers from around the district. Homan was the consenus choice the last two seasons after sharing the award his sophomore season.
Teammate Steve Borger was the choice for Offensive Player of the Year thanks to his 21 touchdown-one interception regular season that earned him Midwest Athletic Conference Offenisve Player of the Year honors.
Three other Cavaliers earned first team All-District honors. Cornerback Brady Geier earned his second straight first team accolade for defensive backs. Kicker Trevor Stromblad, whose 67 extra points is among the best ever in a season in the state of Ohio, and offensive tackle Paul Mathewson also earned first team honors. Guard Adam Schroyer and linebacker Cody Muhlenkamp received second team selections.
Also earning player of the year honors in the voting was St. Marys senior Bo Frye, who shared Division III Offensive Player of the Year honors with Fostoria quarterback Marcus Hyde.
Joining Frye for first team honors in Division III were teammates Travis Neal at offensive lineman and linebacker Tim Rammel. Sophomore tailback Koby Frye earned second team honors. Celina's Erik Chapin earned Division II first team honors after his solid season at safety.
In Division V, St. Henry earned three first team selections. Senior lineman Nick Hart was named to the first team on defense while juniors Andy Puthoff (linebacker) and Josh Werling (defensive back) earned top team accolades. Receiver Ryan Hartke was honored with second team selection in Division V.
A trio of Flyers earned Division VI first team honors. Senior Curtis Moeller earned honors at running back while classmate Dan Behr was named first team offensive line. Defensive end Josh Rosenbeck took home honors for defensive line. Receiver Mitch Thobe was named to the second team.
