06-12-06 Coldwater finishes second

  Coldwater defeated Toledo St. John's (5-3) and Bryan (6-2) while losing to Defiance (10-5) in a 10-inning affair.



  After falling behind 2-0 against Toledo St. John's, Coldwater rallied by outscoring its opponent 5-1 the rest of the way.

  Cory Klenke got the win on the mound for Coldwater allowing one earned run and six hits to go with eight strikeouts. Keith Schoenherr, Klenke, Justin Goubeaux and Kyle Ahrens each had two hits apiece for Coldwater.

  Coldwater scored three runs in each of the second and sixth innings on the way to the 6-2 victory over Bryan.

  Sam Slavik got the win on the hill with a complete game allowing five hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. Slavik also added a three-run home run to lead the offense while Ahrens contributed a double and Tyler James a triple.  In the championship game against Defiance, the hosts kept their perfect summer record intact with a 10-5 victory improving to 12-0 on the summer. Coldwater stands at 7-3.

  Defiance scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to pick up the victory.

  Brad Brunswick had three singles for Coldwater against Defiance while James was tagged with the loss on the mound in relief of Bill Geeslin.

  

Parkway slips by Marion

  The Parkway ACME team broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning with a pair of runs to pick up a 4-2 win over Marion Local.

  Jordan Thompson broke the tie with a single and later gave Parkway a two-run advantage by scoring on a suicide squeeze bunt from Joel Henkle.

  Parkway, which is now 7-0 on the summer, stole seven bases in the game.

  Jensen Painter got the win for Parkway by going the first five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Ethan Hayes threw the final two frames to pick up the save allowing just one hit along the way.

  

JUNIOR ACME

Celina splits two

  The Celina Junior ACME team stands at 3-3 on the season after splitting a pair of games against New Bremen and Fort Recovery.

  Just two days after run-ruling New Bremen 16-6, the Cardinals came back to beat Celina, 6-5 on Thursday night. New Bremen scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a come-from-behind victory.

  Celina rebounded to defeat Fort Recovery, 18-6 on Friday in a six-inning contest.

  Keith Neighbors led Celina with three hits while Travis Stachler got the win on the mound.
