Katherine I. Chappie, 98, formerly of 113 Sturgeon St., St. Marys, died at 7:20 a.m. April 26, 2004, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys. She was born July 9, 1905, in Piqua, to Charles and Gertrude Ridenauer Mears. In February 1921, she married Albert Chappie who died in 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Lewis, St. Marys; a sister, Caroline Schaffer, Piqua; eight grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Charles; two daughters, Alberta Fannon and Pauline Paulus; and a son-in-law, Ralph Lewis. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Altar-Rosary Sodality and the Legion of Mary. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. David Heinl officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys. Calling is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys. Bernice Gruebmeyer
Bernice E. Gruebmeyer, 90, 132 Bear Drive, New Bremen, died at 11:37 a.m. April 25, 2004, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. She was born June 27, 1913, in New Bremen, to Albert and Alice Hirby Kohlrieser. On Oct. 2, 1937, she married Leonard Gruebmeyer who died June 22, 1996. Surviving are two sisters, Isabella Wittenbrink, Minster, and Ruth Lininger, St. Marys; a brother-in-law, Wilbert Gruebmeyer, New Bremen; and two sisters-in-law, Vilma Rump, New Bremen, and Jeanette Hegemier, Minster. A brother, Wilbur Kohlrieser, is deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen. Calling is after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the New Bremen Emergency Squad or the church memorial fund. |
