Dr. George Wenning Dr. George B. Wenning, DVM, 72, 8141 Ohio 119, Maria Stein, died at 8:10 p.m. April 28, 2004, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus. He was born June 5, 1931, in Coldwater, to Lewis and Loretta Knapke Wenning. On July 23, 1960, he married Helen Dirksen who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Tom (Mary) of Wapakoneta and Robert of Maria Stein; a daughter, Carol (David) Blevins, Auburn, Ind.; two sisters, Esther (Robert) Ballweg, Botkins, and Janet (Daniel) Kemper, Coldwater; and seven grandchildren. A retired veterinarian, he initially set up a practice in Parker, Ind., before establishing the Maria Stein Animal Clinic. He graduated from Coldwater High School and Ohio State University with a bachelorŐs degree in agriculture and a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, where he served as pastoral associate, religious education instructor, lector and communion distributor. He also was a member of Maria Stein American Legion post 571, Mercer County Republican Party and the Mercer County Board of Elections serving as chairman of the enhancement committee, and a past member of the Community Hospital Board and the Marion Community Development Organization. He was a Precious Blood Companion and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Kenneth Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-9:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
