Leroy Benanzer Leroy A. Benanzer, 58, West Park Street, Fort Loramie, died at 9:30 p.m. May 20, 2004, at his residence. Death was due to cancer. He was born June 10, 1945, in Shelby County, to Paul and Mary Naomi Glynn Benanzer. On July 21, 1965, he married Linda L. Barhorst who survives. Also surviving are a son, Tony (April) of Montezuma; three daughters, Lori (Michael) Slonkosky, Sidney, Kaye (Gary) Lengerich, Maplewood, and Lynn (Marc) Rue, Jackson Center; a brother, Joseph (Pam) of Sidney; six sisters, Judith (Victor) Schulze, McCartyville, Mary (Richard) Berning and Ruth (Edward) Schulze, all of Newport, Agnes (John) Fisher, Wapakoneta, Rose (Bill) Muhlenkamp, Tipp City, and Louise (Rex) Frey, Fort Loramie; his mother-in-law, Jeanette Barhorst, Fort Loramie; and nine grandchildren. A sister, Dorothy, died in infancy. He worked as a forklift operator at F & P of America in Troy until 2003. He previously owned and operated Pemberton Country Market for nine years, served as branch manager of Bambauer Fertilizer & Seed Company, Pemberton, and drove truck for Meadow Gold, Piqua. He had served as a Perry Township trustee for six years. A 1963 graduate of Fort Loramie High School, he was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Fort Loramie, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1391, Minster, and Newport Sportsmen Club. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Calling is 2-8 p.m. Sunday and 9-10 a.m. Monday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie. Contributions can be made to Wilson Hospice Care. Martha Dotson Former Mendon resident Martha "Jean" Dotson, 64, of Pensacola, Fla., died May 18, 2004, at her residence. Death was due to natural causes. She was born August 1939, in Elida, to John and Ruth Miller. On June 13, 1959, she married Fred Dotson who survives. Also surviving are a son, James (Deb) of Pensacola; a daughter, Penny of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Ralph Miller, Mendon, Larry (Theresa) Miller and Jerry (Virginia) Miller, all of Celina, and Charles (Delores) Miller, St. Marys; a sister, Marilyn (James) Hernandez, Van Wert; and three grandchildren. Memorial services were held Friday at Trahan Mortuary Services in Pensacola. Contributions can be made to the Cancer Society or the March of Dimes. Andrew Kohnen
Celina native Andrew M. Kohnen, 27, of Van Wert, died May 20, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. Death was due to cancer. He was born July 12, 1976, in Celina, to Michael Kohnen and Nina Thoene Kohnen Smith. They survive along with a stepmother, Judith Kohnen, Chesterfield, Va., and a stepfather, Jeffrey Smith, Mineral, Va. Also surviving are a brother, Benjamin Kohnen, Chesterfield; and the grandparents, Nelda Thoene, St. Marys, and Don and Klela Kohnen, Celina. Deceased is a grandfather, Carl Thoene. A 1995 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he was employed at Airco Industries. Private services will be held for the family. Esther Elizabeth May, 88, 5690 East 500 North, Portland, Ind., died May 20, 2004, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Ind. She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Jay County, Ind., to Benjamin and Bertha Freund Schmit. In 1937, she married Cletus May who died in 1961. Surviving are six sons, Gary and Alfred, both of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ben of Calhoun, Ga., Ernie of Decatur, Ind., Mike of Willshire, and Edward of Portland; two daughters, Ginger Loy, Calhoun, and Maria Yoder, Geneva, Ind.; a sister, Agnes Rumschlag, Decatur; 25 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bryant, Ind. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Robert Reinhart officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Calling is 1-7 p.m. Sunday at Baird Funeral Home, Portland. The rosary will be recited there at 5 p.m. Sunday. |
