Lavada Rodriguez

Lavada Elizabeth Rodriguez, 63, 321 Leona St., Celina, died at 1 a.m. June 14, 2004, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Death was due to natural causes.
   She was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Fonde, Ky., to Emmitt and Myrtle Mason Orick. On March 15, 1970, she married Everardo Rodriguez who survives.
   Also surviving are a son, Rick (Ada) Hilton, Celina; three brothers, Clifford (Insoon) Orick, Elida, Jerry (Kye) and Robert Orick, all of Celina; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a daughter, Myrtle Amanda Rodriguez; two brothers and a sister.
   She retired from Huffy's after 27 years and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Revs. Richard Riedel and Rick Brosher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina.
   Contributions can be made to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund.


Marvin Cowan

Chattanooga native Marvin Raymond Cowan, 94, 208 W. Carmean St., Ohio City, died at 10:45 p.m. June 13, 2004, at VanCrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
   He was born March 21, 1910, in Chattanooga, to Harry Blaine and Nackie Elizabeth Acker Cowan. On May 28, 1938, he married Dorothy Dick Lutz who died Jan. 16, 1990. On May 5, 1991, he married Esther L. Stemen Moore who survives.
   Also surviving are a son, Philip (Beverly) of Van Wert; three daughters, Linda (Charles) Mathew, Ohio City, Phyllis (Charles) Ingman and Vickie Wollenhaupt, all of Van Wert; a stepdaughter, Beckie (Bernard) Motycka, Ohio City; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Raymond M.; two brothers, John and Donald; and a sister, Edna Maxine Rutledge.
   He became a licensed funeral director in 1933 and was involved with Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, until after his 90th birthday. He also served as a member and clerk of Ohio City-Liberty Schools board of education. He was a member of Ohio City United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and held various offices, and Eureka Lodge 592, Free & Accepted Masons.
   A 1928 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School, he attended both the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, the Revs. Michael Waldron and Chris Henkaline officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.
   Calling is 1-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held there at 8 p.m. Thursday.
   Contributions can be made to the church.
