Thelma Bergman Former Mercer County resident Thelma L. Bergman, 92, of Westerville, died July 23, 2004, at Outlook Manor in Westerville. Her husband, Ward Bergman, is deceased. Lewis Edward Burris, 76, 7120 Fleetfoot Road, Celina, died at 5:59 a.m. July 27, 2004, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater. He was born May 31, 1928, in Celina, to Hershel Burris and Alvina Bertke Burris Birt. On Aug. 4, 1950, he married Marcene A. Braun who died Sept. 4, 2000. Surviving are two sons, Richard (Robin), of Mendon, and Randolph, of Celina; a daughter, Diana (Rick) Boos, also of Celina; four grandchildren and a great-grandson. He retired from Mersman Brothers and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, both of Celina. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Celina native Ruth Evelyn Doll, 89, formerly of Findlay, died at 2:55 p.m. July 26, 2004, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. She was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Celina, to Warren and Maude Winters Arnett. On Jan. 17, 1945, she married Linus N. Doll who died Aug. 24, 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Lynne E. (Thomas) Orwick, Arlington; a sister, Marie Ayers, Cridersville; a grandson and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Robert Arnett, and two sisters, Faye Hierholzer and Mildred Jewett. She was a homemaker and a former secretary at Mersman Brothers in Celina. She was a member of the Prime Time Club. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, with chaplain Bill Herr officiating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Findlay. Ruth Edna Downey, 80, 1014 Lilac St., Celina, died at 5 p.m. July 26, 2004, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was born Oct. 28, 1923, in Delphos, to Joseph and Pettronella Carder Gremling. On June 10, 1944, she married John E. Downey who died March 23, 1990. Surviving are five sons, Rod (Jaruwan) and Jerry (Sue), both of Celina, Joe (Lila) of Coldwater, Mick (Becky) of Mendon, and Ralph (Sheila) of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; a daughter, Judy (Lee) Fennig, Celina; a sister, Mary Alice Ervin, Delphos; 14 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, three sisters and a stepgrandchild. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Tom Brenberger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina. Bernice M. Snell, 87, 11230 state Route 364, St. Marys, died at 1:46 a.m. July 27, 2004, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community. She was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Greenville, to Hugh E. and Edna Painter McEowen. On May 30, 1936, she married Richard C. Snell who is deceased. Surviving are two sons, Joseph (Linda) of Miamisburg and Robert (Belinda) of Wilmington; a daughter, Linda (Lonnie) Thacker, Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, including her twin Blanche O'Brien of Florida, and Isabel (Fritz) Haflanger, Dayton; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, John McEowen, and a sister, Mary Perry. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Otterbein chapel, the Rev. Evelyn Mary Springer, 76, 7776 state Route 703 East, Celina, died at 12:13 p.m. July 27, 2004, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. She was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Auglaize County, to Henry and Meta Katterheinrich Miller. On July 6, 1947, she married Bill R. Springer who died Oct. 1, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca (Alan) Dock, New Bremen, and Judy (Thomas) Smith, Celina; and two grandchildren. A brother, Willis Miller, and a sister, Ruth Counts, are deceased. She retired as a bookkeeper at Francis Furniture in Celina and was a seamstress. She was a member of Grace Missionary Church, Celina, where she had taught Sunday school. Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Revs. Eric Muhlenkamp and Harold Lunsford. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
