Robert Shimp Celina native Robert E. Shimp, 81, died at 1:40 a.m. Aug. 5, 2004, at his home in Lima. He was born March 7, 1923, in Celina, to Roy and Maggie Long Shimp. On Feb. 21, 1949, he married Betty D. Zimmerman who survives. Other survivors are a son, Tim (Beverly) of Terrace Park; a daughter, Barbara (Joe) Hashemi, Long Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren. Deceased are five sisters, Mae Wurster, Mildred Jenkins, Bonnie Bockrath, Ruth Reisinger and Annabelle Burger. He was an electrician for Standard Oil Refinery and Sohio Refinery of Lima. A U.S. veteran, he served in Company C202 of the Army Corp of Engineers in World War II. He was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks lodge 54 and Premcor Action Club, all of Lima. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Lacey officiating. Burial is at Gethsemani Cemetery at the Mausoleum Chapel in Lima, with military rites performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 1275. Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Lewis Chapel, Lima, were a special service will be held at 6 p.m. Contributions can be made to the church. |
