Velma Elshoff Velma L. Elshoff, 94, formerly of 317 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, died at 2:58 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at the St. Marys Living Center. She was born July 16, 1910, in New Knoxville, to William and Sarah Bierbaum Henschen. On April 19, 1942, she married Floranz Elshoff, who preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Mack (Marcie Humphreys), of Elida; two step-sons, Eldred (Irene), of La Canada, Calif, and Kenneth (Lea Ann), of Columbus; a sister, Margaret Henschen, of New Knoxville; a sister-in-law, Betty Henschen, of New Knoxville; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Henschen, and a brother, Hosea Henschen. A graduate of New Knoxville High School, she later retired as a cook for the district and also worked at Ben Kuck's Store in New Knoxville. She was a life-long member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, and was active it the woman's guild and choir there. Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, near New Knoxville. Visitation is one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
