Dorothy Berning

Dorothy A. Berning, 79, 1109 S. Park Ave., Tylersville, Fla., died at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 22, 2004, at Parish Medical Center, Tylersville.
   She was born Dec. 5, 1925, in Fort Loramie, to George and Jane Barga Raterman. On Sept. 19, 1945, she married Robert F. Berning who died Feb. 26, 1982.
   Surviving are a son, Jeffrey (Carol) of Jupiter, Fla.; four daughters, Susan (Floyd) Rickel, Dayton, Sandra Burns, Bradenton, Fla., Sarah (Kenneth) Manning, Cocoa, Fla., and Pamila (Chris) Hennessy, Macon, Ga.; a brother, George (Marie) Raterman, Sidney; three sisters, Ruth Dressman, Sidney, Jeannette (Ed) Giere, Maria Stein, and Marie Meinerding, Fort Loramie; 29 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are two sons, Robert and John; two brothers and two sisters.
   She and her husband had been co-owners of a restaurant business. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Tylersville, the SNAP Program and the Indian River Civic Center.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, Maria Stein, the Rev. Kenneth Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.


Ruth Clausing

Ruth Clausing, 93, formerly of 125 Hickory St., St. Marys, died Dec. 23, 2004, at Harbor Side Nursing Home, Swanton.
   She was born May 3, 1911, in St. Marys, to Henry and Caroline Seewer Kellermeyer. On April 17, 1941, she married Edward Clausing who died May 5, 1989.
   Surviving are two sons, Edward (Beth) and Michael (Donna), all of Napoleon; and three grandchildren.
   A sister, Mildred Daugherty, is deceased.
   She was a homemaker, a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Napoleon, a former member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and a 1925 graduate of Memorial High School, both of St. Marys.
   Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Michael Westbay officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
   Calling is after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.


Marvyn Ellis

Marvyn "Chuck" Ellis, 68, Deford Street, Celina, died Dec. 23, 2004, at his home.
   Arrangements are pending at Cisco Funeral Home.


LaVerne Gales

LaVerne S. Gales, 71, of Spencerville, died at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 23, 2004, at his home.
   He was born Feb. 15, 1933, in Delphos, to Garner Segree and Cleo Fern Diller Gales. On April 27, 1957, he married Pansy M. Owens who survives.
   Also surviving are a son, LaVerne S. II (Jan) of Spencerville; a daughter, Amy L. (Brad) Swick, Spencerville; a sister, Joyce (Dick) Oehlhof, Portage, Wis.; three brothers-in-law, Gilbert (Betty) Owens and Bobby Jo (Judy) Owens, both of Ironton, and Robert Pearson, Wilmington; two sisters-in-law, Pat (Johnny) Ehler, New Lebanon, and Lois (Bill) Matney, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandsons.
   A sister, Elsie Leis, and a sister-in-law, Fern Pearson, are deceased.
   He retired from the Lima Engine Plant of Ford Motor Co. in 1989 after 30 years of service as a layout man. A 1951 graduate of Spencerville High School, he served a tool and die making apprenticeship at Lima Westinghouse Corp.
   The owner of several Western Ohio Colt Racing Association champions, he was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association, Ohio Racing Commission, Auglaize County Harness Horsemens Association, First Baptist Church, Acadia Lodge 306 Free and Accepted Masons and Royal Arch Masons of Ohio Chapter 169, both of Spencerville, United Auto Workers Local 1219 and Ford M.E.L. 3-5-7 Club, both of Lima, and a 32nd degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo.
   Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Oran L. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Spencerville Cemetery.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Masonic memorial rites will be held there ar 8:45 p.m.
   Contributions can be made to St. Rita's Hospice.


Monty McIlroy

Monty Hal "Mac" McIlroy, 60, 209 E. Fayette St., Celina, died at 1:55 a.m. Dec. 23, 2004, at Kettering Medical Center. Death was due to natural causes.
   He was born Sept. 10, 1944, in Madison, Wis., to George H. and Ellen Mae Bauer McIlroy. On March 29, 1955, he married Paula K. Remaklus who survives.
   Also surviving are two daughters, Hallie G. (Jeff) Craven and Jessica R. Cooper, all of Celina; a sister-in-law, Mary McIlroy, Columbus; and three grandchildren.
   Deceased are a twin son and daughter, Paul A. and Jennifer Rachel; a brother, Scott; and a sister, Sue Ellen Jones.
   He was an independent insurance agent and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and the Woodland Foundation.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Tom Brenberger officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
   Contributions can be made to the Mercer County Cancer Society, the church or the Cancer Association.


Mary Wright

Mary Adaline Wright, 93, 1254 S. Shannon St., Apt. 125, Van Wert, died at 3:55 a.m. Dec. 23, 2004, at her home.
   She was born July 31, 1911, in Van Wert County, to Charles and Elizabeth Morrison Moyer.
   Surviving are a nephew, Raymond (Mary) Hoverman, McComb; four nieces, Esther Profit and Janet Hoverman, both of Ohio City, Mary Jane Metcalf, Lexington, Ky., and Kaulene (Denzil) Wortman, Van Wert; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
   Deceased are two brothers, Walter and Waldo Moyer, and four sisters, Blanche Matthews, Lula Sidle, Pauline Fraser and Katherine Hoverman.
   A registered nurse, she served as director of education at Columbus State School for two years before moving to the Southwest and working at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Silver City, N.M., and the Navajo reservation in Window Rock, Ariz. She later taught classes for licensed practical nurses at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, N.M. A graduate of St. Rita's School of Nursing, Lima, and Ohio State University, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ohio City, and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.
   Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Denise Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City.
   Calling is 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the Ohio City church.
