Alfred Emans

Alfred V. "Pooch" Emans, 82, 218 S. Main St., Mendon, died at 4 a.m. Dec. 31, 2004, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
   He was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Mercer County, to Harry S. and Luella Selanders Emans. On Dec. 24, 1946, he married Marilyn J. Coffman who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Rex (Janet) and Rick (Barb), all of Mendon; a daughter, Rita Puthoff, Celina; a brother, Stanley (Janet L.) of Mendon; two sisters, Lillian Cleo Moorman, Celina, and Patricia Rice, Geneva, Ind.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son-in-law, Daniel C. Puthoff; a brother, Raymond; and two sisters, Helen Fern Schlueter and Rhonda Etzman.
   A former owner and operator of Emans Construction in Mendon, he also co-owned Emans Pure Oil Union 76 Station in Mendon with his son Rick. He had worked at Crampton's Cannery and B&F Garage, both of Mendon, and Lima Tank Depot.
   A former chief of the Mendon Fire Department, he was a member of Mendon First Church of God, Spencerville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6772, Coldwater Disabled American Veterans Post and Celina American Legion Post 210. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.
   Services were 11 a.m. today at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Glenn Masser officiating. Burial followed at Mendon Cemetery.
   Contributions can be made to the Mendon Fire Department.


Marilyn Grear

Marilyn K. Grear, 69, of Lima, died at 6:45 a.m. Jan. 2, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
   She was born April 21, 1935, in Lima, to Leonard and Gladys Finley Montgomery. On June 16, 1962, she married Bobby Joe Grear who died Jan. 14, 2003.
   Surviving are a daughter, Tiffany of Lima; three stepsons, Bruce A. (Teresa) and Tony, all of Lima, and Chad (Joyce) of Spencerville; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   She worked at Buckeye Pipeline Co. and then as customer service supervisor at West Ohio Gas Co., where she worked 43 years. She was a 1953 graduate of Cridersville High School.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, the Rev. Paul Deppen officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the Spencerville Invincible Fire Co.


Evelyn Kaucher

Evelyn Kaucher, 93, of Coldwater, died today, Jan. 4, 2005, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
   A complete obituary will appear in Wednesday's newspaper.
