Merilda Hein Merilda Hein, 94, of Coldwater, died today, Jan. 14, 2005, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Jeff S. Lantz, 41, of Van Wert, died Jan. 13, 2005, at his home. Death was due to natural causes. He was born Dec. 26, 1963, in Syracuse, N.Y., to John and Jackie Jessup Lantz. They survive in Auburn, Ind. On June 28, 2000, he married Robin Grieshop of Mendon who survives. Also surviving are a son, Nicholas Shaw, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Nichole (Bill) McCoy, Convoy; two brothers, Todd (Pam) of Leo, Ind., and Greg of Auburn; two grandchildren; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Jan Grieshop, Mendon; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law. A sister, Andrea, died in infancy. He was special projects manager and computer specialist at Interstate Cold Storage in New Haven, Ind., and a graduate of Ball State University. Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Timothy Burden officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Van Wert. Carl A. Mescher, 84, formerly of 218 Elm St., Celina, died Jan. 13, 2005, at Celina Manor Nursing Home. He was born April 28, 1920, in Coldwater, to Louis and Rose Spoltman Mescher. On May 12, 1948, he married Mary Fortkamp who died July 4, 1976. Surviving are two sons, Anthony (Katrina) of Bloomington, Ind., and Charles (Mary Jane) of Celina; two daughters, Kathryn and Susan (Hugh) Aukerman, all of Celina; a brother, Linus (Joan) of Celina; two sisters, Lucille Homan, Chickasaw, and Pauline Ruschau, St. Marys; and four grandchildren. Three brothers, Ralph, Wilfred and Donald, are deceased. He retired as credit manager at Reynolds & Reynolds, Celina, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, American Legion Post 210 and Knights of Columbus Council 1800, all of Celina. He attained the rank of Fourth Degree Knight and was a founding member of the Maria Stein Retreat House Helpers. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. James Seibert officiating. Donald B. Unrast, 70, 5836 state Route 119, St. Henry, died at 4 a.m. Jan. 13, 2005, at his home. He was born Dec. 2, 1934, in Maria Stein, to Victor and Emma Bruns Unrast. On July 9, 1955, he married Mary Lou Uhlenhake who died June 8, 1987. On Jan. 31, 1998, he married Cookie Sealscott who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jerry (Kathy) and Jim (Kathy), all of St. Henry; two daughters, Patricia (Dennis) Pottkotter, St. Henry, and Carol (Marv) Tuente, Maria Stein; three stepsons, Brian (Linda) Sealscott, St. Henry, Shawn (Judy) Sealscott and Kevin Sealscott, all of Wapakoneta; a stepdaughter, Yvette (Dave) Locker, Wapakoneta; 12 grandchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Bob (Patsy) of Maria Stein; a sister, Joann (Werner) Holdheide, St. Henry; three brothers-in-law, Tom Mescher, Maria Stein, Omer (Anita) Klosterman, Celina, and Charlie (Betty) Gaerke, Fort Recovery, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Uhlenhake, Coldwater. Deceased are two sisters, Jeanette Mescher and Martha Unrast; two brothers-in-law, Tom and Ernie Uhlenhake; three sisters-in-law, Marie Uhlenhake, Wilma Gaerke and Rita Klosterman; and a grandchild. He was a farmer and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles lodges in Coldwater and Wapakoneta, Celina Loyal Order of Moose and the Polka Boosters. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
