Br. Richard Schaffner, C.PP.S., 59, of St. Charles Center, Carthagena, died at 4:15 p.m. Feb. 2, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 6, 1945, in Canton, to Lester and Lucille Mercier Schaffner. Surviving are two sisters, Chris (Barry) Pitkin, Canton, Kathy (Tim) Schaff, Massillon; and two nephews. A brother, Dale, is deceased. He entered the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in 1981 and became a brother in 1986. He was a teacher of history and religion at several ministry sites and was the pastoral assistant and director of religious education at St. Matthew Church, Akron, from 1998-1999. He came to St. Charles in 2000, where he worked in the office. He also taught adult religious education courses in the area. A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles, the Revs. Angelo Anthony and Jerry Steinbrunner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery. Calling is 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday at St. Charles. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater, has charge of arrangements. |
