Vera Baumgardner

Vera D. Baumgardner, 82, 702 S. Main St., St. Marys, died at 6:50 a.m. Feb. 22, 2005, at St. Marys Living Center.
   She was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Auglaize County, to David and Hilma Schmidt Rohrbach. On Dec. 28, 1941, she married Richard I. Baumgardner who died April 26, 1996.
   Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Nancy) of Monument, Colo., and Timothy (Jane) of Milford; a sister, Gertrude Tinnerman, St. Marys; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are three brothers, Walter, Leory and Virgil Rohrbach, and two sisters, Olga Irene Burkhart and Martha Rohrbach.
   She was the retired owner of Cincinnati Legal Blank Co. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, St. Marys, and a 1940 graduate of Spencerville High School.
   Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Bill Maki officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
   Calling is after noon Sunday at the funeral home.


Alvina Evers

Alvina J. Evers, 92, 5060 Philothea Road, St. Henry, died at 10:55 a.m. Feb. 23, 2005, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
   She was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Carthagena, to Herman and Catherine Albers Hoying. On June 14, 1934, she married Sebastian Evers who died June 8, 1971.
   Surviving are two sons, Donald (Verena) and Gerald H., all of St. Henry; a daughter, Jeanette (Pat) Siefring, New Weston; two brothers, Herman (Merilda) Hoying and George (Neoma) Hoying, all of St. Henry; a sister, Justine Wilker, Montezuma; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
   A sister, Mary Evers, is deceased.
   She was a homemaker and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and St. Monica Ladies Sodality, both of Carthagena, and Knights of St. John Auxiliary, Maria Stein.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.


Midge Ripley

Midge C. Ripley, 97, of Decatur, Ind., died at 8:04 a.m. Feb. 23, 2005, at Woodcrest Nursing Center, Decatur.
   She was born Aug. 1, 1907, in Pleasant Mills, Ind., to Harvey O. and Laura Ann Kelly Davis. On Nov. 10, 1928, she married Leland A. Ripley who died Nov. 29, 1964.
   Surviving are six sons, Charles E. (Norma) of Plymouth, Ind., Roger D. (Betty), John William (Sue), and Marcus J. (Penny), all of Decatur, Thomas M. (Arvilla) of Lexington, Ky., and Michael K. (Emily) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three daughters, Enid Roberts, Columbus, Ind., Laura Pauline (Marvin) Joray, Wentworth, S.D., and Marlene (Jim) Habegger, Decatur; 27 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, a stepgreat-grandchild and four great-great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, David L.; a son-in-law, David Roberts; three brothers, Richard F., James P. and William L. Davis; three sisters, Bess Cowan, Dora Shafer and Madge Masters; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
   She retired as a compregraphics operator at the Decatur Daily Democrat and was a homemaker. A 1925 graduate of Pleasant Mills High School and a 1925 graduate of Fort Wayne Business College, she was a member of Union United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, the Missionary Society of the church, Decatur Chapter 127 Order of Eastern Star and the Friendship Village Home Demonstration Club, all of Decatur. She was past president of the Adams County Women's Farm Bureau, an award-winning feature writer for the Indiana Extension Homemakers and an editor of family histories.
   Services are 10 a.m. Saturday and Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, the Revs. Bill Simms, Mitchael Ripley and Michael Ripley officiating. Burial will follow at Tricker Cemetery near Decatur.
   Calling is 1-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the church, McCurdy Missions or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
