Marilyn Fennig

Marilyn M. Fennig, 74, of Van Wert, died at 1:15 p.m. March 19, 2005, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
   She was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Celina, to Robert and Elizabeth Painter Miller. On Feb. 21, 1948, she married Donald E. Fennig who survives.
   Other survivors are two sons, Mark and Stephen of Van Wert; three daughters, Sharon Franklin, Walton, Ky., Leslie (Steven Hughes) of Fort Wayne, and Stephanie of Convoy; and five grandchildren.
   Deceased are three brothers, Robert, David and Larry Miller.
   She worked as the reference librarian at Brumback Library in Van Wert for 13 years, and worked at the Van Wert Court Hospital TWIG II thrift shop. A graduate of Wright State University, she was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Van Wert, and a past member of its Dorcas Circle, and the American Association of University Women.
   Services are 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. William Haggis II officiating. A private family burial is planned.
   Calling is 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, and 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church's parlor.
   Contributions can be made to the library or the Van Wert Animal Protection League.


John Kingen

Former Celina resident John Kingen, 78, died March 20 at Van Crest Health Care Center, Van Wert.
   Funeral arrangements are pending at W.H. Dick & Sons, Celina.


Quentin Lykins

Quentin Lykins, 60, 342 S. Front St., St. Marys, died at 4:48 p.m. March 18, 2005, at Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford. Death was due to cancer.
   He was born Sept. 19, 1944, in Wayland, Ky., to Charles and Harriet Wahl Lykins. On Nov. 20, 1965, he married Sharon Schmidt who survives.
   Other survivors are a son, Cory of St. Marys; a daughter, Joelle (Jeff) Joseph, Celina; two sisters, Bonnie Slone, Chillicothe, and Jennie Hole, Celina; and three grandchildren.
   Deceased are two brothers, Charles and Fred Lykins, and a sister, Shelly Lykins.
   He was retired from Stamco, New Bremen, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
   Graveside services and burial are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, Pete Huff officiating.
   Calling is 5-8 p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
   Contributions can be made to the State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice.


Kathy Menchhofer

Kathy D. Menchhofer, 46, 5829 Wabash Road, Coldwater, died March 18, 2005, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
   She was born Feb. 24, 1959, in Mercer County, to James Jr. and Evelyn Fennig Bryan. Her mother survives in Celina. On Dec. 2, 1978, she married John Menchhofer, who also survives.
   Other survivors are two sons, Curtis (Cassie), and Eric, all of Celina; a daughter, Laura Menchhofer, Celina; a brother, Keith (Lubica) Bryan, Cincinnati; and a sister, Carol (Todd) Gagel, Maria Stein.
   Deceased is her father.
   She worked as assistant director of the Mercer County Child Support Enforcement Agency in Celina. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Coldwater, and a member of a church women's group. She also had taught Sunday school for many years and had served on the church council.
   Services were 10:30 a.m. today at the church, the Rev. Arvid Harklau officiated. Burial was at the church cemetery.
   Calling was 2-8 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home in Celina and after 9 a.m. today at the church.
   Contributions can be made to the church.


Sylvia Prueter

Sylvia Prueter, 69, 111 Laura St., New Knoxville, died at 10:15 p.m. March 19, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, following an extended illness.
   She was born March 26, 1935, in St. Marys, to Maynard Sr. and Elsie Warner Schamp. Her mother survives in St. Marys. On Sept. 29, 1956, she married Don Prueter who survives.
   Other survivors are a son, Scott (Amy) of New Knoxville, two daughters, Sharon (Kirk) Stienecker, New Knoxville, and Susan of Lima; a brother, Maynard Jr. (Betty) Schamp, St. Marys; a sister, Marlene (James) Harpest, Wapakoneta, and six grandchildren.
   She worked as a bookkeeper for various companies in the area, and was a member of First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Guild. A 1953 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, she was a member and former president of the American Legion Auxiliary post 444 and the New Knoxville Historical Society.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. David Hunt officiating. Burial is at Resthaven Memory Gardens near St. Marys.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys.
   Contributions can be made to the Auglaize County Relay for Life.


Rick Sanford

Rick J. "R.J." Sanford, 50, 01101 Schroeder Road, St. Marys, died at 3:20 a.m. March 19, 2005, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, following an extended illness.
   He was born Oct. 1, 1954, in St. Marys, to A.J. and Anna Mae Frazier Sanford.
   Surviving are three sisters, Sundina Wuebbenhorst and Joann Meadows, of St. Marys, and Susie (Art) Corwin, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Meadows, St. Marys.
   Deceased is a brother, Paul Meadows, and a sister, Stella Kohli.
   A 1973 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, he worked in the construction industry.
   Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Judy Ball officiating. Burial is at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


Margaret Shroyer

Margaret D. Shroyer, 85, 218 Eastown Dr., Wapakoneta, and formerly of Port Jefferson and Kettlersville, died at 10:55 p.m. March 19, 2004, at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Center.
   She was born June 14, 1919, near New Bremen, to Lois and Pauline Settlage Wehmeyer. On Sept. 27, 1940, she married Arthur L. Shroyer who died May 14, 2001.
   Survivors are a son, Edward (Mary Ann) of Wapakoneta; a daughter, Annette (Thomas) Barlow, Manchester, Conn.; and two granddaughters.
   Deceased are a brother, Robert Wehmeyer, and three infant brothers.
   She was a homemaker and a clerk at the former Smith's 5 &10 in New Bremen and Murphey's 5 &10 in Sidney. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Kettlersville, and its Women's Guild and Sarah Circle, and formerly attended St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, and St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sidney.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kettlersville church, the Rev. Charles Moeller officiating. Burial is at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Calling is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the church.
   Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund.


Joan Silvers

Joan M. Silvers, 75, formerly of Cottonwood Dr., Celina, died at 7:55 a.m. March 18, 2005, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
   She was born June 2, 1929, in Minster, to Edward and Hilda Drees Placke. On Oct. 29, 1949, she married William T. Silvers who died June 5, 1985.
   Survivors are four sons, Scott (Zendias) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Jay (Diane) of Chesterfield, Mich., William (Ewa) of Clarmont, Fla., and James (Donna) of North Berwick, Maine; two daughters, Sheila (Craig) Hirschfield, New Bremen, and Gwen (Dennis) McAfee, Celina; three sisters, Janice (Louie) Drees, Fort Loramie, Bonnie (Herb) Limbert, Fryberg, and Norma (Edmund) Webster, Minster; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   She retired from Crown Equipment and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, both of New Bremen.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial is at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.
   Contributions can be made to Child Abuse Awareness.


Odelia Smelser

Odelia E. Smelser, 89, 622 W. Walnut St., Coldwater, died at 10:55 p.m. March 18, 2005, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
   She was born Jan. 3, 1916, in St. Rose, to Mathias and Elizabeth Fortkamp Bomholt. She married Edward Smelser who died in 1987.
   Survivors are a daughter, Barbara Dameron, Coldwater; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
   Deceased is a son, Tony; three brothers, Edmund, Victor and Jerome; and four sisters, Lorena, Rose, Olepha and Lucille.
   She was retired from Community Hospital and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial is at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
