Jean A. VanTrees, 78, 11300 Circle Drive, St. Marys, formerly of Fort Recovery, died at 3:10 a.m. April 19, 2005, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community. She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Portland, Ind., to John and Lois McGriff Hoskins. On Nov. 14, 1946, she married Floyd J. VanTrees who died Dec. 3, 1995. Surviving are two sons, Greg (Vickie) of Berne, Ind., and Mark (Pat) of Fort Recovery; two daughters, Diana (Bob) Grile, Fort Recovery, and Donna of Ashtabula; three sisters, Janet (Robert) Guntle, Portland, Nadine (Marvin) Towell, Bryant, Ind., and Karen (Charles) Powell, Lake Placid, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Ralph Satterwhite, Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Madonna Bisel, Portland, and Fay (Ralph) Somers, Berne, Ind.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A sister, Norma Satterwhite, is deceased. She had worked at the former Huffy Corp. in Celina and served as vice president of the local United Steel Workers Union. A graduate of Portland High School, she was a member of Fort Recovery United Methodist Church and Jay County Homemaker Chorus and a member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 111, Fort Recovery. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Revs. Robert Dungan and Don Ricard officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmound Cemetery, Fort Recovery. Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the church. Helen Wilges
Helen Louise Wilges, 83, of Celina, died April 18, 2005, at Celina Manor Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Kenton, to Ora Christopher and Nora Agnes Miller Maurer. On Nov. 17, 1943, she married Charles L. Wilges who died Aug. 3, 1996. Surviving are two sons, R. Michael (Judy) of Piqua and Kenneth E. (Dee A.) of Celina; a daughter, Patricia K. Freeman, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a sister, Mary K. Gilbert, Spencerville; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, John and Harry Maurer, are deceased. She was a homemaker who had worked for many years at the former Barr Co. in Celina. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society, also of Celina. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at W. H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina. Contributions can be made to the Cancer Association of Mercer County or to the church. |
