Alvera Arling

Alvera M. Meyer Arling, 80, Greenback Road, Fort Loramie, died April 22, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
   She was born May 1, 1924, in Egypt, to Fred J. and Christina C. Spoltman Broerman. On Oct. 11, 1945, she married Kenneth J. Meyer who died Feb. 7, 1962. On Sept. 1, 1965, she married Walter B. Arling who died June 2, 1978.
   Surviving are two sons, Kenneth J. (Ginger) Meyer Jr., Piqua, and Wayne (Annette) Meyer, Minster; two daughters, Barbara (Edward) O'Meara, Dayton; and Lois Jean (William) Mescher, Coldwater; three brothers, Frank (Marlene) Broerman, Tipp City, Alfred (Pat) Broerman, New Bremen, and Carl (Rose) Broerman, Fort Loramie; a sister, Dorothy (Joseph) Wuebker, Minster; a sister-in-law, Thelma Broerman, Maria Stein; and 11 grandchildren.
   Deceased are two brothers, Lawrence and Leo Broerman, and two sisters, Hilda Broerman and Louise Shadley.
   She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality, both of Fort Loramie, a graduate of Walkup School, also of Fort Loramie, and a former participant in the American Cancer Society's Green Thumb program.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Revs. Steven Shoup and Larry Wyen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.
   Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.


Helen Froning

Helen A. Froning, 94, formerly of 08001 New Bremen-New Knoxville Road, New Bremen, died at 9:53 p.m. April 21, 2005, at The Gardens at Wapakoneta.
   She was born Jan. 29, 1911, near New Bremen, to Frederick and Anna Wuebbling Wehrman. On June 3, 1937, she married Harold B. Froning who died Oct. 30, 1982.
   Surviving are four sons, Jacob of London, Steven (Janice) of Golden, Colo., Mark (Diana) of Findlay, and Richard (Marlene) of Wapakoneta; a sister, Irene Staggs, California; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a brother, Edward Wehrman; a sister, Marie Metzl; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Froning; and two grandsons.
   A homemaker and former telephone operator, she was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, the Busy 12 and the Women's Guild of the church, all of New Bremen.
   Services were 10:30 a.m. today at the church, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiated. Burial followed at Willow Grove Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Contributions can be made to the church memorial fund.
   Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, had charge of arrangements.


Mildred Haugen

Mildred A. Haugen, 91, formerly of 1706 Queensbury Drive, Celina, died April 22, 2005, at The Miller House, Celina.
   She was born May 30, 1913, in Jackson Center, to John and Louisa Weaver Metz. Her husband, Rudolph Haugen, died Oct. 4, 1984.
   Surviving are a son, Derrolle (Judith) of Dayton; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
   A daughter, Vivian Bernard, is deceased.
   She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina.
   Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery.
   Calling is after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
   Contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
   W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, has charge of arrangements.


Mary Ann Kandra

Mary Ann Kandra, 82, formerly of Behm Road, Celina, died at 8 p.m. April 22, 2005, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
   She was born April 25, 1922, in Punxsutawney, Pa., to John and Anna Goulish Filisko. In June 1983, she married Stephen C. Kandra who died May 5, 1992.
   Surviving are two nephews, Francis Fabian, Marion Center, Pa., and Joseph Fabian, Scottdale, Pa., and a niece, Mary Ann Fabian, Yatesboro, Pa.
   Deceased are two brothers, Pete and John Filisko; a sister, Anna Fabian; and a nephew, John Fabian.
   She retired from Donenfelds in Dayton and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
   Funeral Mass is 2:30 p.m. today at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
   Calling is 1:30-2:15 p.m. today at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.


Herbert Selhorst

Herbert H. Selhorst, 73, 4436 Coldwater Creek Road, Coldwater, died at 5:15 p.m. April 23, 2005, at his home.
   He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Coldwater, to Charles J. and Henrietta Bruggeman Selhorst. On April 24, 1954, he married Waveline Bruggeman who survives.
   Also surviving are four sons, James of Celina, Terry (Kathy) and Jeff (Janel), all of Coldwater, and Scott (Beth) of Dayton; three daughters, Diane (Jeff) Moots, Van Wert, Judy (Lavern) Koesters, Coldwater, and Mary Jane (Dan) Buening, Burkettsville; a sister, Leona Wendel, St. Henry; a sister-in-law, Mildred Selhorst, Coldwater; 20 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandchild.
   Deceased are a brother, Jerome; a sister, Esther Post; and two brothers-in-law, Adolph Wendel and Eugene Post.
   He was a farmer and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Men's Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 1991, American Legion Post 470 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3025, all of Coldwater. He also was a U.S. Army veteran.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Dorn officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.
   Contributions can be made to State of the Heart Home Health & Hospice.


Bruce Teeple

Former Mendon resident Bruce Edward Teeple, 53, 520 N. Ninth St., Goshen, Ind., died April 22, 2005, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, Ind. Death was due to natural causes.
   He was born Dec. 2, 1951, in Portland, Ind., to Keith L. Teeple and Betty (Grogg) Schmidt. His mother and stepfather, Bennett Schmidt, survive in Mendon.
   Also surviving are two brothers, Steven (Gilda) of Valparaiso, Ind., and Mark (Evelyn) of Angola, Ind.; two sisters, Diana (Robert) Fields, Portland, Ind., and Betty Lawrence, Celina; three stepbrothers, Roger (Sherri) Schmidt, Columbus, Kevin (Heather) Schmidt, Celina, and Mike Schmidt, Lima; two stepsisters, Lisa (Mark) Jones, Mount Vernon, and Lori Huffman, Mendon; and nieces and nephews.
   Two brothers, Larry and Roger, are deceased.
   A design engineer at Utilimaster Corp. in Wakarusa, Ind., he formerly worked at AVCO New Idea, Coldwater. He was a 1970 graduate of Mendon-Union High School and a graduate of ITT Technical Institute, Dayton.
   Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Mendon, the Rev. Randy Christian officiating. Burial will follow at Mendon Cemetery.
   Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.
