James Betz

James S. Betz, 66, 509 E. Boundary St., Fort Recovery, died April 28, 2005, at his home.
   He was born June 28, 1938, in Wabash, to Dorsey and Hildred Smith Betz. His mother survives in Fort Recovery. On June 30, 1971, he married Roberta Iliff who survives.
   Also surviving is a brother, John of Fort Recovery.
   He retired from Dayton Power & Light Co. after working 34 years as a distribution technician. A 1956 graduate of Fort Recovery High School, he was a member of AFL-CIO Local 175 Utility Workers Union of America and a former member of the Jay County Humane Society, Portland, Ind.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brockman & Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, the Rev. Robert Dungan officiating. Burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery, Salamonia, Ind.
   Calling is 1-5 p.m. Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
   Contributions can be made to the Jay County Humane Society.


David Pape

David Pape, 79, 304 E. South St., New Bremen, died at 10:42 p.m. April 28, 2005, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
   He was born May 19, 1925, in New Bremen, to Carl Sr. and Hilda Dicke Pape. On May 19, 1951, he married Carolyn Schilling who survives.
   Also surviving are a son, Scott (Darlene) of Dublin; three daughters, Cindy (Roland) Dicke and Cheryl (Roger) Barlage, all of New Bremen, and Charlotte (Mark) Schwabero, Naperville, Ill.; two brothers, James (Mary Lou) of California and Don of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
   A brother, Carl Jr., is deceased.
   A 1943 graduate of New Bremen High School and a graduate of Northwestern Business College, he owned and operated a business and personal accounting service established in 1956. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Woodman of the World Camp 149 and Sons of the American Legion, all of New Bremen, a former member of the New Bremen Local Schools board of education and a former member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. John W. Tostrick officiating. Burial will be at German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
   Contributions can be made to B7-15's Relay for Life team, Friends of the Library or the church memorial fund.
