Sister Mary Neargarder North Star native, Sister Mary Jacinta Neargarder, C.PP.S., 73, died May 19, 2005, at Medical University of Ohio, Toledo, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born Jan. 8, 1932, in North Star, as Mary Louise to Clarence and Bertha George Neargarder, and received her religious name upon entering the Sisters of the Precious Blood on Jan. 9, 1949. Surviving are three brothers, George (Pat) of St. Marys, Robert (Penny) of San Jose, Calif., and Patrick Richard (Val) of Saratoga, Calif.; two sisters, Pat (Bill) Goubeau, St. Marys, and Jean (Byron) Dotson, Mill Creek, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Alice of Howard Beach, N.Y. Deceased are her brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Marie; and a brother, Joe. During her 55 years in religious life, she was a teacher and administrator at several elementary schools including Holy Rosary in St. Marys, St. Mary's in Dayton, North College Hill in Cincinnati, and others in Arizona and Indiana. She also served as an associate professor at Arizona State College, receiving degrees from the University of Dayton and Marygrove College of Detroit, Mich. Following her teaching career, she was an assistant manager at the Maria Stein Shrine Gift Shop. She also served as librarian and technology consultant at Sts. Peter and Paul School, Ottawa, and was involved in various ministries in the area. She served on call for hospital and ambulatory care emergencies. Funeral Mass is 7 p.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Burial is at Salem Heights Cemetery, Dayton. Calling is noon Monday until the time of Mass at the church, and 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Central House of the Sisters of the Precious Blood, Salem Heights, Dayton, where a prayer service is slated for 7 p.m. A Resurrection liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Salem Heights Convent Chapel. Funeral Mass for Esther M. Link was 10:30 a.m. May 20, 2005, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiated. Organist Cindy Van Santvoord was accompanied by the Resurrection Choir. Pallbearers to Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina, were grandsons, Jeremy, Tyler, Dylan, Ben, Kenny, Randy, Terry and Jason Link.
