Ernest Hemmelgarn Ernest "Ernie" Hemmelgarn, 77, 3014 state Route 119, St. Henry, died at 9:06 a.m. June 21, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Wendelin, to Henry and Amelia Stammen Hemmelgarn. On Sept. 17, 1955, he married Mary Ann Thieman who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Jerry (Janet), Pat (Gloria) and Chuck (Lori), all of St. Henry, and Phil (Terri) of Muncie, Ind.; three daughters, Teresa (Brad) Burckholter, Celina, Marie (Joseph) Pottkotter and Marilyn (Les) Pottkotter, all of Fort Recovery; two brothers, Urban of Coldwater and Andrew (Velma) of St. Henry; three sisters, Marcella Bailey, Dayton, Flora Dippold, Cassella, and Agnes Miller, Brookville; a brother-in-law, Martin (Graye) Harmuth, Dayton; 26 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Cletus and Cyril; two sisters, Rita Harmuth and Elizabeth Hemmelgarn; three brothers-in-law, Cyril Dippold, Ralph Miller and Melvin Bailey; two sisters-in-law, Agnes and Clara Hemmelgarn; and a grandchild. He retired from Avco New Idea, Coldwater, after 42 years and was a farmer. He was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where he served as a communion distributor, usher, choir member and rosary leader, the Men's Society of the church and S.O.A.R. He also was a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus in St. Henry. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, the Rev. Tony Fortman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Calling is 2-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, St. Henry.
