Della Cheek Della Cheek, 79, of Rockford, died at 7:25 a.m. Aug. 16, 2005, at Colonial Nursing Center, Rockford. She was born May 26, 1926, in Rose Hill, Va., to William McKinley and Rhoda Shackelford Helton. On Oct. 2, 1945, she married Charlie O. Cheek who died July 16, 2001. Surviving are three sons, Carson (Jane) of St. Henry, Grable (Deb) and Rusty (Tammy), all of Rockford; three daughters, Shirley (Ken) Miller and Mary Lou (John) Archer, all of Fort Recovery, and Peggy (Jim) Garwood, Chattanooga; a brother, Charlie Helton, Middlesboro, Ky.; three sisters, Rosie McGrew, Hazel Park, Mich., Dorothy Pierson, Greenville, and Kathy Helton, Morristown, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and nine stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are four brothers, Floyd, George, Walter and James Edward Helton; a sister, Verda Mae Wallace; and a grandchild. A homemaker, she formerly worked as a nurse's aide and licensed practical nurse at Shane Hill Nursing Home, Rockford, for 28 years. She had attended the Baptist church. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, The Rev. Robert Loar officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford. Mary Helen Gaier, 95, 8134 Dawson Road, Fort Loramie, died at 2:04 a.m. today, Aug. 17, 2005, at her home. She was born Aug. 23, 1909, in Shelby County, to Henry and Elizabeth Fleckenstein Hoelscher. On Oct. 26, 1932, she married Albert G. Gaier who died March 11, 2000. Surviving are a son, Paul (Charlene) of Fort Loramie; three daughters, Agnes (Donald) Doseck, Botkins, Janice (Elmer) Larger and Linda, all of Fort Loramie; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Hoelscher, Fort Loramie, and Roberta Hoelscher, Piqua; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Infant twins, two brothers and two sisters are deceased. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Ladies Sodality and Catholic Ladies of Columbia, all of Fort Loramie. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Steven Shoup officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster. Contributions can be made to Wilson Hospice Care. |
