Lowell A. Mack Sr., 73, of Spencerville, died at 6:50 a.m. Aug. 31, 2005, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. He was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Auglaize County, to Hobart E. and Clara Naomi Snyder Mack. On Dec. 15, 1951, he married Betty I. McPheron who died April 23, 1996. Surviving are two sons, Lowell A. Jr. (Jeanette) of Spencerville and Paul G. (Patricia) of Neptune; two daughters, Kelly A. Longsworth, Bellefontaine, and Angela K. (Robert) Nye, Coldwater; seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. He was a farmer and a heavy equipment operator who owned an excavating business. He recently retired as a truck driver for Jack Meinberg Trucking Co. and previously drove for Bekins. A 1949 graduate of Spencerville High School, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was a member of Hartford Christian Church, St. Marys Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767 and Union Local 18 Operating Engineers, Toledo. Services are 8 p.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, Pastor Robert King officiating. Burial will follow later at German Zion Cemetery. Alphonse H. "Al" Miller, 83, 5A Greenhills Drive, Minster, died at 12:45 a.m. Aug. 31, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Burkettsville, to Anton and Elizabeth Borgerding Miller. On June 30, 1948, he married Mary Ann Vehorn who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Steven of Cincinnati, John (Pam) of Minster, and Daniel (Paula) of West Carrolton; two daughters, Diane of Cincinnati, and Kristine (Glenn) Giarratana, Madison, Conn.; three sisters, Philomena Mueller, Alabama, Leona Bertke, St. Joseph, and Donna Vehorn, Botkins; a sister-in-law, Bernadine Miller, Dayton; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Deceased are four brothers, Aloysius, Linus, Richard and Wilbert Miller; two sisters, Veronica Mueller and Alma Moorman; five brothers-in-law, Joseph Mueller, Urban Moorman, Walter Bertke, Edward Mueller and Herb Vehorn; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Miller and Dorothy Miller. He retired as a mechanic from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 33 years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and American Legion Post 387, both of Minster. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with the Minster Firing Squad conducting military rites. Calling is 3-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster. Patty R. Thomas, 57, of Mendon, died Aug. 30, 2005, at her home. Death was due to natural causes. She was born Nov. 18, 1947, in Van Wert, to Ned and Virginia Berry. Her mother survives in Rockford. On April 3, 1968, she married Craig Thomas who survives. Also surviving are a son, John Allen of Paulding; a sister, Sue (Kent) Eichhorn, Decatur, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Dianna (Ben) Kalb, Tulsa, Okla; two nieces and a great-niece. Deceased are two sons, James Arthur and Dale Edwin; and a daughter, Sandy Dee. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, Pastors James Klausing and Kathleen Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens, Celina. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the church. |
