Steven Hammond Celina native Steven M. Hammond, 41, Washington Court House, died at 7 a.m. Sept. 3, 2005 at his residence. Death was due to natural causes. He was born April 23, 1964 in Celina to Paul and Joanne Kinkley Hammond. His wife, Lori, survives along with his parents. Also surviving is a son, Micah; two daughters, Danielle and Aimee; a brother, Jon (Debbie) of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Paula Herkenhoff, Celina, and Janice (Edward) Hemmelgarn, Shaker Heights. He worked as a senior accountant and Disaster Recovery Coordinator for Nationwide Financial Services. A graduate of Miami University, he was a member of the class of 1982 at Celina High School. He also was a member of the Fayette Bible Church, helped with accounting at Fayette Christian School, participated in the Emmaus Community, the Promise Keepers and the Garrison Gospel Singers. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, Pastor Tony Garren and the Rev. Joe Current officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery. Esther M. Hartings, 72, 2910 state Route 118, St. Henry, died at 9:20 a.m. Sept. 4, 2005, at her home. She was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Fort Recovery, to Anthony and Frances Rammel Timmerman. On Sept. 25, 1954, she married Bernard E. Hartings who survives. Also surviving are a son, Daniel (Doris) of Coldwater; three daughters, Jane (Neal) Heitkamp, Celina, Debra (Jim) Freeman, New Bremen, and Karen (Phil) Eilerman, Bradford; three brothers, Wilfred (Jean) Timmerman, Fort Loramie, Gerald (Irene) Timmerman and Richard (Loudonna) Timmerman, all of Fort Recovery; three sisters, Joan Hartings and Edna (Paul) Klingshirn, all of Coldwater, and Lucille (Jerry) Laux, Fort Recovery; a brother-in-law, Urban Dirksen, Fort Recovery; a sister-in-law, Alma Timmerman, Coldwater; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Louis Timmerman, and four sisters, Erma Eischen, Ruth Gruss, Bernice Dirksen and infant Margaret Timmerman. She was a homemaker who had worked as a cook at the St. Henry Schools for 25 years. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the Altar Rosary Sodality and the Daughters of Isabella, all of St. Henry. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Mercer County native Melvin E. Klopfleisch, 79, of Decatur, Ind., died Sept. 2, 2005, in a traffic accident at the intersection of state Routes 49 and 707 north of Chattanooga. He was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Mercer County, to Henry and Clara Hunziker Klopfleisch. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Virginia A. Straub who died in the same accident. Surviving are a son, Kent (Donna) of Decatur; two daughters, Karen (James) Maurer, Celina, and Kathie (Jon) Rich, Carol Stream, Ill.; a sister, Marjorie (Ralph) Beckstedt, Celina; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He retired from G.E. in Decatur but continued to farm and raise sheep. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rockford, and American Legion Post 0468, Berne, Ind., and a past member of Chattanooga Volunteer Fire Department and the G.E. fire brigade. She was born May 26, 1912, in Ohio City, to Peter W. and Loretta Louetta Rayer Wiseman. On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Ralph H. McDougal who died May 20, 1978. Surviving are a brother, Lloyd (Frieda) Wiseman, Ohio City; and two sisters, Helen Shinabery, Rockford, and Thelma (Morrell) Allen, Ohio City. Deceased are three brothers, Paul, Waldo and Robert Wiseman, and a sister, Emma Lou Myers. She was a homemaker. Private services are planned. Harriet F. Sarfi, 82, formerly of Cleveland and 1020 Fleck Ave., Celina, died Sept. 3, 2005, at Celina Manor Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Cleveland, to Edward and Sylvia Macho Dudek. On April 21, 1943, she married Joseph Sarfi who survives. Also surviving are a son, Glenn R. (Santosh) of Chicago; two daughters, Valerie Strohl, Celina, and Gayle (Gerry) Simon, Kent; a brother, Edward (Marge) Dudek, North Royalton; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. A son-in-law, Bruce Strohl, is deceased. She formerly worked as a secretary at Eaton Axle Co., Cleveland, and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Ladies Sodality, also of Cleveland. Private services will be at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Celina. Wally Watt, 86, 601 S. Main St., New Knoxville, died Sept. 1, 2005, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. Death was due to injuries sustained in an Aug. 27 traffic accident along U.S. 33 near Interstate 75. He was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Belle Center, to John and Edith James Watt. On Jan. 23, 1963, he married Marjorie Jacobs who died March 23, 2001. Surviving are two sons, David of Wapakoneta and James (Mary Lou) Preston, Xenia; four daughters, Marla Sue of Rudy, Ark., Ginger (William) Holtkamp and Micheale (Richard) Howe, all of New Knoxvilleand June (David) Reichelderfer, Cridersville; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Emery, and three grandchildren. He retired as a boiler operator at Hoge Lumber Co., New Knoxville, drove a bus for New Knoxville Schools for 18 years, was a retired firefighter with the New Knoxville Fire Department and was a licensed pilot. A 1936 graduate of Lakeview High School, he was a member the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 444, both of New Knoxville, and a U.S. Army veteran. Dorothea Kipp Wierwille, 90, 5555 Wierwille Road, New Knoxville, died at 4 a.m. Sept. 1, 2005, at Valley Nursing Home, St. Marys. She was born July 15, 1915, in New Knoxville, to Edward and Sarah Stienecker Kipp. On July 2, 1937, she married Victor Paul Wierwille who died May 20, 1985. Surviving are a son, John (Edna) of Elizabethtown, Ky.; three daughters, Karen (James) Martin, Houston, Texas, Mary (John) Somerville, North Fork, Calif., and Sara (Kevin) Guigou, Midland, Mich.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Donald; two brothers, Adrain and Alferd Kipp; and two sisters, Evelyn Thatcher and Deloris Fischbach. She and her husband founded The Way International, a worldwide biblical research and teaching ministry headquartered in New Knoxville. A graduate of New Knoxville High School and Cincinnati Deaconess Nursing School, she had worked as a registered nurse at hospitals in Sheboygan, Wis., and Princeton, N.J. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Shankel Auditorium at the Nazarene District Center, St. Marys. Burial will be at the Garden of Living Waters at The Way International.
