Howard Axe Howard F. "Hap" Axe, 86, 702 Meadowview Drive, Celina, died at 12:21 a.m. Oct. 16, 2005, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born March 9, 1919, in St. Marys, to Edward A. and Anna Knous Axe. His mother survives in St. Marys. On Oct. 5, 1940, he married Wanda Hassan, who died July 30, 2003. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Marcella Dock, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Juanita Lowell Gagle, Celina; a brother-in-law, Lowell Hassan, Coldwater. Deceased are a brother and sister-in-law, Carl (Hilda) Axe; two sisters, Pauline Hassan and Roseannne Axe; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth (Robert) Puthoff, Marie (Arthur) Wennning, Esther (Ace) Hanlin, and Leona (Eugene) Niblick. He had been a butcher at Marsh Super Market, Celina, and retired from there in the 1980s. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, and the Benvolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2170, Mercer County and was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Richard Riedel officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery, Celina. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina. Contributions can be made to the church endowment fund. Beatrice A. Kessler

Richard J. Schuck, 96, formerly of 1133 Shimp Drive, Celina, died at 11:45 p.m. Oct. 15, 2005, at the Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford. He was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Celina, to Albert and Philomena Walters Schuck. On July 25, 1931, he married Mary E. Anderson, who died April 3, 1996. Surviving are a daughter, Susie Bennett, Chillicothe; and six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Deceased are two sons, Howard and Thomas; two brothers, Frank and Cletus; and three sisters, Mildred Schuster, Mary M. Schuck and Cleopha Heeter. He worked for 30 years at Oakview Upolstery, Greenville. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Celina, the Rev. Richard R. Riedel officiating. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at the church. There is no calling.
