Hilda Schmitz Maria Stein native Hilda Schmitz, 90, of Sandwich, Ill., died Nov. 16, 2005, at her home. Death was due to cancer. She was born Sept. 22, 1915, in Maria Stein, to August and Catherine Vondrell Droesch. On May 30, 1941, she marrried Gerald Schmitz who died in 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Janet S. (Tom) Naylon, Conyngham, Pa., and Kathy A. (Jack) Kuppler, Sandwich; a brother, Mark Droesch, Maria Stein; a sister, Ruth Mueller, Maria Stein; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Harold) Knapke, Fort Recovery; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Deceased are an infant daughter, Deborah; a brother, Robert Droesch; two sisters, Eleanor Fortman and Dorothy Homan; and an infant grandson. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Sandwich, and its Christian Women group. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Jack T. Heraty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Queen of Angels Cemetery in rural Sandwich. Calling is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, where the rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Contributions can be made to DeKalb County Hospice, Fox Valley Older Adults, the church building fund or Valley West Community Hospital Building Fund.
