Gwen Ashbaugh Gwen Ashbaugh, 60, 1100 Myers Road, Celina, died at 1:22 a.m. Jan. 5, 2006, at Celina Manor Nursing Home, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born May 13, 1945, in Celina, to John and Lela Hoenie Eden. Her mother survives in Coldwater. On Jan. 4, 1975, she married Owen "Red" Ashbaugh, who died April 29, 2002. Also surviving are two brothers, Tom (Sharon) McMillan, Coldwater, and Larry (Judy) McMillan, Walworth, N.Y.; and a sister, Gayle (Bill) Davis, Tucson, Ariz. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Celina. Memorial services are 2 p.m. today at Coldwater United Methodist Church, the Rev. Alan Brown officiating. Burial of remains at Macedon Cemetery, Coldwater, will be held later at the convenience of the family. Contributions can be made to the Celina Area Visiting Nurses Hospice. Margaret L. Eley, 81, 219 Stella St., Celina, died at 1:30 a.m. Jan. 6, 2006, at The Gardens of Celina. She was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Celina to Homer and Bessie Snider Coate. On March 14, 1947, she married Robert Eley, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gary of Hawaii; and two grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Richard, and two sisters, Esther Miller and Dorotha Garman. She retired as a waitress at a coffee and sweet shop. She was a member of Celina Legion Auxiliary, Celina Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and St. Johns Lutheran Church. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. Jason Tyas officiating. Burial will follow at Swamp College. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. Memorials can be made to the church. Betty Jo Gormley
Betty Jo (Elizabeth Josephine) Gormley, 71, a native of New Bremen, died Jan. 2, 2006, at the home of her daughter in Chicago, Ill. She had battled ovarian cancer the past year. She was born Feb. 6, 1934, to Urban and Corinne Schwieterman. She married Donald Richard Gormley, who survives in Annapolis, Md. Also surviving are three daughters, Dr. Nanette (Dr. Rudy) Mejicano-Gormley, Orland Park, Ill., Mara (Steve) Proctor, San Francisco, Calif., and Marijo (Scott) McLachlan, Malabar, Fla.; a son, David (Molly) Gormley, Linthicum, Md.; two brothers, David (Ruth Ann) Schwieterman, New Bremen, and Dr. Donald (Marilyn) Schwieterman, Maria Stein; a sister, Trudy Kuenning, Concord, N.H.; and 11 grandchildren. One son, Gerard, is deceased. She graduated from New Bremen Local Schools and Mount St. Joseph's College in Cincinnati in 1956, with a bachelor of science in nursing. She worked for the Anne Arundel County Health Department in 1977 and eventually became a community health nurse manger of the maternal child health division. She oversaw four community health centers and was known for her advocacy of patient's rights. She retired in 1993. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Annapolis, and served as secretary for the Annapolis Christ Child Society and as a Eucharistic minister. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and helped establish one of the first kindergartens in the Annapolis area. She also was an active member of the Maryland Nurses Association. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at the church. Internment will be 3 p.m. Jan. 18 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
