Robert Gariety

Robert M. Gariety, 88, of Miller Road, Russia, died the evening of July 4, 2006, at the Covington Care Center.
   Funeral arrangements are pending at Gehret Funeral Home, Fort Loramie.


Orville Highley

Orville L. Highley, 99, 918 Canterbury Drive, Celina, died July 4, 2006, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
   He was born April 27, 1907, in Mercer County, to James Henry and Pearl Smith Highley. On April 27, 1929, he married Leone Hatfield, who died Oct. 17, 1994.
   Survivors are two sons, James (Georgia) and Robert (Pat), all of Celina; a daughter, Betty L. (Jerry) Powell, Coldwater; a sister, Beulah Snider, The Plains; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a sister, Ada Spohn, and a grandchild.
   He was a retired farmer and member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
  


Rose Mary Schwieterman

Rose Mary Schwieterman, 83, 8591 Erie Drive, Maria Stein, died at 1:08 a.m. July 5, 2006, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home, Coldwater.
   She was born September 16, 1922, in St. Joe, to Aloys and Elizabeth Brockman Steinbrunner. On April 23, 1949, she married Mark F. Schwieterman, who survives.
   Also surviving are four sons, Dale (Nancy) and Tim (Ann), all of St. Sebastian, Kenneth (Gale), Lafayette, Ind., and Glenn (Mary Jo), Maria Stein; five daughters, Carol (Dave) Knapke, Fort Recovery, Marge (Harry) Heitkamp, Maria Stein, Ruth (Bill) Link, St. Henry, Jane (Dale) Hein, Chickasaw, and Joyce (Tim) Kemper, Marietta, Ga.; two brothers, Albert (Teresa) Steinbrunner, St. Joe, and Harold (Eileen) Steinbrunner, Marion, Ind.; two sisters, Helen (Orval) Schwieterman and Delores Abels, all of Coldwater; a sister-in-law, Jean Steinbrunner, St. Joe; 29 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Deceased is a brother, Carl Steinbrunner.
   She was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein, the ladies rosary altar sodality of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, the Catholic Knights of Cassella, and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary, Maria Stein.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Harry Cavanaugh officiating. Burial is at St. Sebastian Cemetery.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Martha Simindinger

Van Wert native Martha Verdene Lehman Simindinger, 79, of rural Grover Hill, died at 11:40 a.m. July 3, 2006, at Van Wert County Hospital.
   She was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Van Wert, to Elza and Pearlie McMichael Pease. She married Paul Smith, who is deceased. She married Donald J. Lehman, who died Jan. 31, 1992. She married Kenneth I. Simindinger, who survives.
   Also surviving are a son, David (Brenda) Smith, Van Wert; a daughter, Marty (Brett) Gardner, Van Wert; eight stepsons, Danny (Judy) Lehman, Springfield, Dave (Judy) Lehman, of Texas, Dennis Lehman, of Tennessee, Virgil (Theresa), Van Wert, Terry, Grover Hill, and Kenny Jr., Tim and Jerry, all of Cloverdale; two stepdaughters, Diane (Dick) Jenkins, Elida, and Debbie (Mark) Ainsworth, Ohio City; a sister, Virginia Ewersen, Port Clinton; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are two daughters, Mary Ann Smith and Donna Kay Lehman; and a brother, Erwin Pease.
   She taught piano lessons for many years and played for area churches including First Friends Church, Van Wert.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Keith Stuck officiating. Burial is at Middle Creek Cemetery, near Grover Hill.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
