Laverne Fark

Laverne L. Fark, 87, of New Bremen, died at 7 a.m. July 6, 2006, at Otterbein St. MarysRetirement Community.
   She was born April 21, 1919, north of New Bremen, to Frank Sr. and Ruth Brockman Niemeyer. On June 29, 1940, she married Robert W. Fark, who died May 29, 1994.
   Survivors are a son, Jan (Joanie), New Bremen; a brother, Robert Bud Niemeyer, New Bremen; a daughter-in-law, Ardythe, Lima; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
   Deceased are a son, Wayne; a brother, Frank Jr.; a sister, Jean Dock; a grandson and great-granddaughter.
   She retired after 22 years of service at Crown Equipment Corp., New Bremen. She was a member of the St. Peter United Church of Christ, its Lay Life and Work and Quilters, all in New Bremen. She was a graduate of New Bremen High School and a member of the New Bremen Senior Citizens.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating. Burial is in German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
   Calling is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
   Contributions can be made to American Heart Association, American Lung Association or the church.


Orville Highley

Orville L. Highley, 99, 918 Canterbury Drive, Celina, died July 4, 2006, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
   He was born April 27, 1907, in Mercer County, to James Henry and Pearl Smith Highley. On April 27, 1929, he married Leona Hatfield, who died Oct. 17, 1994.
   Survivors are two sons, James (Georgia) and Robert (Pat), all of Celina; a daughter, Betty L. (Jerry) Powell, Coldwater; a sister, Beulah Snider, The Plains; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
   Deceased are a sister, Ada Spohn, and a grandchild.
   He was a retired farmer and member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, and the Mercer County Farm Bureau.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial is at Swamp College Cemetery, Celina.
   Calling is 2-8 p.m. today at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
   Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.


Nelson Mangen

Nelson F. Mangen, 73, 12006 Greenville-St. Marys Road, Versailles, died at 6:31 p.m. July 6, 2006, at Dayton Heart Hospital, Dayton.
   He was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Brock to Lawrence B. and Margaret A. Dapore Mangen. On July 7, 1956, he married Armella E. Knoth, who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons, Mark, Brock, and Vernon, New Weston; two daughters, Mary Jane Mangen, Piqua, and Karen Marie Mangen, Union City; three brothers, Verl (Barbara), Clayton, Glen (Yvonne), Versailles, and Cyril (Sharleen), Celina; two sisters-in-law, Helen Mangen, Beamsville, and Jane Mangen, Bradford; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
   Deceased are five brothers, Norman, Carl, Romain, Loren, Ellery and infant brother Bernard; and an infant sister, Mary Ann.
   He was a retired dump truck operator at Eugene Meyer Trucking, Versailles, and severed in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Frenchtown.
   Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, the Rev. David Vincent officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Versailles Honor Guard.
   Calling is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home, Versailles.
   Contributions can be made to an organization of the donor's choice.


Cletus Menchhofer Jr.

Cletus Menchhofer Jr., 76, 1151 St. Anthony Road, Coldwater, died at 1:45 p.m. July 6, 2006, at Briarwood Manor Nursing Home Coldwater.
   He was born July 23, 1929, in Coldwater, to Cletus and Lucille Becher Menchhofer. In May 1951, he married Imogene Canary, who survives.
   Also surviving are two sons Doug (Sheila), Celina, and Richard, Coldwater; three daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Kunk, Celina, Marilyn (Rex) Ferguson, Celina, and Brenda (Kevin) Deardoff, Celina; a sister, Mary Kathryn Brown, Tipp City; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Dennis and twin sons, Donald and Ronald.
   He was retired from Avco New Idea, Coldwater, after 45 years. He has lived and spent 52 years as a farmer in Washington Township. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington Township. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two years during the Korean War. For 48 years he was a member of American Legion Post 345, Fort Recovery.
   Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral, Celina, the Rev. Doug Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by the Legion.
   Calling hours are after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
   Contributions to the Briarwood Activity Fund.


Ruth Strohl

Ruth M. Strohl, 80, 538 Willow St., Celina, died at 3 a.m. July 7, 2006 at her residence.
   She was born May 17, 1926 to Theodore and Mary (Donovan) Leiberick. On Nov. 10, 1946, she married Fred Strohl, who died Sept. 8, 2004.
   Survivors are a son, Brent, Celina; a daughter, Sue Ellen Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Strohl, Celina; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
   Deceased are a son, Bruce, and a sister, Mildred Hines.
   She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina. She was a past president of Iota Gamma Sorority of Phi Beta Si, a state secretary of Phi Beta Si. and a holder of a lifetime membership awarded by her local sorority chapter. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Starts, American Legion Post #210 Ladies Auxiliary, past chapeau of 8&40 of Van Wert and a charter member of the Emblem Club of Mercer County Elks.
   Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will be held later at Swamp College Cemetery.
   Calling is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. The Sorority Phi Beta Psi will conduct memorial services at 9:45 a.m.
   Contributions can be made to the Mercer County Cancer Association or St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Celina.
